It kind of creeps up on you and then...you're thinking like a cartoon. The emergent girl in this collage represents my daughters, Eva and Emma, who got out by the skin of their teeth. The pressure to conform is relentless, not only for girls, but also for boys. This collage represents me, too, of course. When you look at the girl on the other side of the grid, you see that something weird has happened to her mouth. It is as though in the process of the photo transfer, her true self has been revealed, and it is not cool. Run!---

Will regular gel medium hold the little lucite [whatever they are] squares in place? I would like to add them to ATC that would be for trade, but I don't want them to fall off should they be sent in the mail.

Oh, yes, regular gel medium makes 'em solid as can be! Have no fear...just let dry thoroughly before mailing. You don't have to goop it on, either, unless you want streaks/patterns. Sometimes I do, so I goop it on....

The black ghost of the child behind her is very terrifying to me. There is a birth, someone trying to be born. Something discarnate ... trying to find form.
So much more than what it seems at first glance.
I also feel that her words have dried up and solidified as a block of ice in front of her mouth. She is calling out her identity (herself, her soul) but it is frozen as soon as it is breathed into being.
Probably all wrong to what you were thinking, but as always it's never the same as what the viewer thinks.

perhaps also, the more protected a person is
the more danger they are in
insidious change is possibly better than suddenly to wake up in a different world
i sometimes wonder about the the consequences of film and television... how much of people's experience is purely contrived

I've been thinking about this a lot, and i wonder if Darwin's hand isn't in the pedastal-ing of the popular. Conforming gets you a position at the base of the pedastal, wherefrom you might climb (or be hauled) up. The interesting thing is that pedastals are now unlimited! No longer must one be confined to one's local middle or high school! Exclusive beauty-based clubs exist online, I heard on the radio a few days ago. But that goes back to the weeding out of others and the common denominator worth sustaining, I suppose.

Do you really think so? My feeling is more that the people themselves are running amok. It is almost as though as a nation (and I am referring to the US specifically), we are immune to leadership. And then you look at the surveys where kids list their role models and the leaders they pick are...well...depressing...and it all kind of makes weird sense. I don't believe that values can be taught from a distance. But then I suppose this just confirms your suggestions about the chaos of instintual action.

has studied
been to japan
been to korea
been to china
and seen how business works there
and thinks that they can do something similar
and without the culture
if a country takes it's labour abroad
it can not then bring those practices back home
neither can it exploit foreign labour indefinitely
people are not slaves
but they don't want to change their own lives
everyone wants to be better off
but no one wants to be exploited
it is all a means to an end
soon it will be over
the exploitable of the world
will all have been exploited
then what?
