Trip to Memory Lane- this one!

Oh but didn't follow the rules, 'cause I thought it kinda wouldn't be as fun for me having to choose between all my disparate influences. XD

So, this is sort-of arranged by time periods, then kinda jumbled around for my own aesthetics. XD

As you can see, my introduction to the world of art and storytelling is by way of animation. Disney movies, Friday night/Saturday morning cartoons and primetime anime were my drugs of choice. And, sorry Ma, looks like I never kicked the habit. (CARTOONS AREN'T JUST FOR KIDS, OK?)

Row 1
The Little Mermaid/Yu Yu Hakusho/New Adventures of Spiderman/Fushigi Yugi/Batman: The Animated Series

Loved how there were more smart girl protagonists with not so enormous bewbs starring in my shows. (Where's the love, America?) Heard about Cat's Trail through the Culture Crash magazine and Devil's Candy was published in the first Risings Stars of Manga, piquing my interest in the format.

Row 2
Fruits Basket/Cat's Trail by /Cowboy Bebop/Devil's Candy by /Vision of Escaflowne

When I was in high school, I started reading manga and really started appreciating their cinematic quality and variety of subject matter. I also got hooked into fantasy books that are approachable but actually quite complex & sophisticated. That, and they were just seriously hilarious. (Inept wizardry seems to be something they have in common!)

Row 3
X1999/Harry Potter/Card Captor Sakura/Discworld/Rurouni Kenshin

More recently, I've been looking towards a few contemporary manga artists whose overall style, technical prowess and engaging stories are of a level I can only hope to achieve someday. (i.e. I hate these people and I wish they all GO AWAY and take up speed-crocheting instead.)

Row 4
Bleach/King of Thorn/Eyeshield 21/Monster/Fullmetal Alchemist

Being US-based, I'd be crazy to omit some of the most effective genre storytellers in the English-speaking world. These are works that have benefited from teams of excellent writers whose sole purpose week after week is to elevate my soul, then crush it, then restore it.

Row 5
LOST/Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Avatar the Last Airbender/Angel/Battlestar Galactica

Finally, these are some inspirational people in my radar that just radiate awesomeness and put so much thought and love into their work, you can totally tell. (I ALSO hate them all and hope they consider speed-crocheting as an alternative hobby, as well.)

Row 6

Kidding, y'all. I love these guys!
