Description The caves beneath Valkenburg have been excavated for more than 2,000. The Fluweelengrot (Velvet Cave) lies beneath the ruins of a castle. Mining began in 1050 — when the construction of the castle started — and ended sometime around 1886. Builidng blocks were cut out using saws. As a result, there are more than five kilometers of smooth rock passageways, many of which have been covered in extremely paintings.

It's a great place to visit.
