The odd thing...yes, there's a humorous aspect...but at the same time, this has a serious, very serious tone to me. Its extremely intense, and makes me stop and think and look...and feel.
As far as it goes visually...beautiful use of color and blending...nice cozy composition. I also like the pose of the girl...there's vulnerability, and indeed a willingness to laugh at herself.

I'm developing a theory that humor is going to be one of the defining characteristics that poor saps will have to memorize about art from our time. I probably will never know for sure...
But at least for now I'm dedicated to the idea.

i agree with you about humor ... and how hard it will be for people in the future to understand our art cuz they don't get the jokes. my daughter loves old movies, and has to work extra hard to understand some of the jokes in the comedies ... they're mostly over my head, needless to say.

I hadnt thought about the timeliness of humor but yes you are so right. Contemporary happening and faddish slang often are central to understanding the joke. I'll have to give this more consideration. Thanks so much for the food for thought.

the "real" me? that's one of those ontological questions that make my head hurt. but the "flesh and blood" me lives and works in a small town in the heart of bible-thumping country ... trust me i know what getting shunned is like, and so pseudo-anonymity works just fine for me, given the kind of themes i like working up.
