Personality

Arthur is ambitious and very much the living ideal image of a knight. Holding high morals and believing in doing the right thing because it is the right thing. Though this exposes how easily he can be heated, as he cannot stand any form of injustice. Going on very rant like speeches towards criminals and bad people that he tries to beat into them to reform. Despite this, he does fight with honor, beliving in fighting an opponent until they are unable to fight back. Only ever resorting to no mercy when faced with something he would find to be pure evil.

Excali is very much indifferent to Arthur's ways. Always urging to end all opponents lives. Strongly believing showing mercy will only lead to the survivor to seek revenge. Despite this contrast, she also believes that it was destiny that brought her to Arthur; this has made her gain deep feelings for him and stand by his side no matter what.

History

Hailing from the Chess Kingdom, Arthur was only a baby when the Skullgirl attacked his home. Having barely survived and lost his mother in the chaos, he became one of the many survivors that holds a great hatred for the Skullgirl. So much so, Arthur has taken it upon himself to find the Skullgirl, and by extention the Skullheart, and slay them once and for all. This desire to stop the Skullgirl was viewed as an obession by his piers, thus viewing him as an outcast. Even more so when he obtained his parasite, Excali. Who was laying dorment in a stone tomb awaiting for a new host for her to bond with. Having traveled to the Canopy Kingdom, hearing rumors and reports that the Skullgirl was sitted there.

Fighting style

Arthur fighting style would be hevily influenced by the swordplay gameplay from the Soul Calibur series. Having a play style that is hevily based around the use of Excali in both conventional and unconventional methods. Such as blocking attacks with the sword blade.

Combo attacks are also based around arthur's use of Excali. One simple combo would be one that involves Arthur jabbing Exacli in a stabbing motion. At the same time, Excali opens and closes her legs rapidly like she is a pair of scissors. More complex combos would involve Excali and Arthur fighting together as if they are in a dance battle.

Excali's name is the first five letters in the name Excaliber, a sword that King Arthur weilded

Arthur's nickname, Black Knight, is a reference to the multiple black knights King Arthur faced

Design

First Design , Second Design

Arthur's design has gone through a number of designs over the years. When I first made him, it was very basic and not very unique. In fact, when I first drew him, I was mostly thinking of Kamen Rider Baron from Kamen Rider Gaim. In the end he was pretty much Baron but altered to fit into the Skullgirls setting (Best shown with the bio in the description of the second design). I have since pushed away from such characterization and pushed him to be much more unique. While also maintaining the idea that he is a knight. As such, his current incarnation better fits into the setting.

Because of the lack of canon characters from the Chess Kingdom, along with not much info on the Chess Kingdom in general. I was not sure how subtle to make his chess motif. So I decided to just make him be a knight with a knight chess piece motif. Having black and white horse heads adorn on his armor as a type of crest. If the series gets any future games featuring characters from the Chess Kingdom, I will modify his look to better match those characters while also standing out.

Excali's main influence was the offical Skullgirls character, Muse. A fellow parasite that replaced her host's arms with her own and her being utilized like a regular instrument. The biggest difference is mainly in the fact Excali acts more like a weapon. Her over all design hasn't changed much over the years. The only real change is how much of her body is the sword blade, and a bit of how she turns into a sword. The basic idea has however remained. In which the legs become the blade, her body and head becom the hilt/guard, while her left arm becomes the handle.

Parasite

Excali is a remote parasite that is bonded to Arthur. In order for her to give her host remote access, she replaced Arthur's right arm with her's. This has allowed Arthur to weild Excali with ease. She turns herself into a sword by putting her legs together to form the blade and raising her right arm up into the air to act as a handle. Arthur and Excali's bond is a mixture of proffessional and romantic types. The two talk together to plan future fights and interact as a couple with Excali sitting in Arthur's lap or being close to him.

Relationships

Arrow

Arrow and Arthur have crossed paths with one another several times. When they first encountered each other, Arthur mistoke Arrow for an actual demon. This was cleared up eventually and finds Arrow to be a good sort even with how he gets by.

To furthur reference Beast Wars, Excali would be voiced by Venus Terzo, who voiced Blackarachnia
