Species Overview

Pengolo-ape's evolved on Rozettra in a manner similar to Earth prime apes. The deviation came in what they had to do in order to survive. Because of the Nerva-blossom, they developed a means to prevent themselves from becoming a host. Evolving to have thick shell plating along their back and neck kept the Nerva-blossom from taking root. Allowing the Pengolo-ape to capture young buds via social grooming. Over time they have become very aware of what their prey does and actively started to hunt them out of self-preservation.

Powers and abilities

Scale Plates: Having developed scale like plates made of keratin. Simi-Shell is protected from the Nerva-blossom's ability to take over their central nervous system. Running down their back also prevents any spinal damage from long and hard falls. The scale plates are also covering the shoulders and outer arms. Providing extra armor and protection against blunt force.

Prehensile Tail: Simi-Shell has enough control over their tail to act as a croad third limb. Mainly used to hang from trees and swing from branches with the aid of swinging motion. Primarily utilized to sneak up on unsuspecting Nerva-blossoms from the tree tops.

Simple Tool Usage: Simi-Shell is smart enough to utilize simple tools. Ranging from throwing rocks, to being able to use sticks like a club. This level of intelligence also gives them the ability to understand how doors work and how to disable traps.

Weaknesses

Exposed Areas: Not all of Simi-Shell's body is covered in the protective scales. Specifically, the chest and legs are prime targets for weak spots. One well aimed punch with enough force can leave him stunned enough for counter attacks.

Durability: The scale plating is not the most durable. They can handle claws and teeth from other predatory animals. But they are designed mainly to prevent a Nerva-blossom from taking root at their neck. Because of this, the scales will not stand up to the force of a hammer or advance laser technology. The scales will also crack and break under enough force from aliens with super strength.

Originally Simi-Shell was the natural predator of a fungus alien, specifically designed around how simians are the one animal that actively eats mushrooms. The protective plating was based on how the young of the fungus alien used other creatures as protection

I was able to save Simi-Shell via making Parabloom's method of taking over a host body similar to the scrapped fungus alien's

Their unique coloration is caused by the pigmentations in Nerva-blossom's petals

The Nerva-blossom have considered trying to accelerate the Pengolo-Ape's evolution into a sapient species to breed out their predatory nature towards the flowers
