Description My name is Paul Dunbar, my deviantART username is Lawman09 and my YouTube username is TeenFlash09.  My favorite anime couples are NaruHina and IchiHime.  All readers, especially haters, please keep in mind that this rant is based on one person's own opinions and interests.  As you read along, you will most likely forget this.  Even though I admit I have a distaste for Sakura and do not approve of NaruSaku, this rant is not meant to insult Sakura, NaruSaku, or her/its fans.  I apologize in advance if and most likely WHEN you get this impression.

I wrote the Anti-HeroxTsudere part of this rant in the beginning of Spring 2010, and took most of this info from reading Ranma ½!  Please remember this as well.  I told another person this and he immediately judged me and proceeded to defend NaruSaku, even though I clearly said Ranma ½ and Anti-HeroxTsudere.  So haters please remember: This part is Anti-HeroxTsudere in general.

Anti-HeroxTsundere:
*Same usual plotline: Main hero usually ends up with the main heroine, unless she's hot!
*Main heroine is flat-chested and not as well built as the other love-interest(s).
*Main heroine treats the main hero like crap and beats him up on a daily basis.
*Main heroine only starts to like the main hero as the story progresses.
*A beat down usually results due to a misunderstanding, the hero being whacky, or the situation is the tsundere's own damn fault!
*If the main hero is having a moment with another possible love-interest, the tsundere will blame him instead of the other girl.
*There's already a girl in love with the main hero, who already accepts him for who he is.
*This one is a personal problem, not really important: I'm tired of having crushes on girls and getting nowhere with it, I think I'd rather have a pretty girl who accepts me for me.
*Main hero and main heroine build a bond with each other that gives me more of an aura of best friends or sibling-LIKE relationship.

As NaruSaku fans have told me before Sakura is NOT a tsundere.  I looked up the word myself and I've come to the conclusion that these are the elements needed to be a tsundere:
*You need to have romatic feelings for the hero and be in denial about them.
*You need be hostile towards the hero on a daily basis.

Fillers:
NaruSaku fans say filler doesn't count, but weren't there also NaruSaku moments in lots of filler episodes, filler scenes, and omakes?  And truthfully, those were the only moments I felt comfortable around, because of their sibling-LIKE bond.

Hinata vs. Pain:
I heard that one of the reasons why Hinata's fight was extended in the anime was that both NaruHina and NaruSaku fans complained that it should've been longer, while the latter said she was useless, weak, and didn't do anything in the manga.  Seriously, they're asking her to beat someone that Jiraiya, Kakashi, Hanzo, Utakata, Choji, Choza, a bunch of nameless Leaf Shinobi, 2 master toads, 3 giant toads, and Sage Naruto were helpless against!  Seriously?!  Anyways, another reason would be that Kishimoto didn't have enough time to give Hinata a full battle, due to limited panel space and this arc was supposed to be focused on the showdown between Naruto and Pain.

As Sawyer7mage, on YouTube, has said when Naruto Shippudden Episode 166 came out, SOME NaruSaku fans immediately when on the offensive.  They complained that it was full of filler and sucked.  I too read those comments, and some of them followed with "I laughed my ass off when Pain sent Hinata flying through the air!".  That was filler too, you bias hypocritical jerks!

People also say Naruto doesn't care about Hinata's feelings.  Wrong!  I have read that his current feelings for her are still unknown.  Besides he has Sasuke and a damn war to worry about.  There's no time for romance!

That's the way of "Naruto":
A NaruSaku fan once told me that Naruto's pranks, stunts, idiocy, and perversions aren't funny and need to be punished and that Sakura is the only one who can put him in his place.  Doesn't that sound a lot like the villagers back then?  Well, if Naruto were to stop all those things, we wouldn't have the "Naruto" we all know and love anymore!  He also said that all the abuse is just for comic relief and is used more in the anime.  Abuse, no matter how much is used for comedy, is still abuse.  He told me that despite what the anime showed, in the manga Hinata was completely useless.  As a Christian, I was raised to believe that self-acrifice is the ultimate sign of love.  Hinata is the only one that's okay with Naruto's whacky antics.  And let's face it, she's the only one who he can take his perversions out on…

Respecting other people's views:
To defend NaruSaku, lordofice72, on YouTube, has brought up the quote "All is fair in love and war" over and over again.  But were Sakura's actions really justified?  Was it really okay for Sakura to trample on Hinata's feelings?  Was it okay for Sakura to "confess" right in front of Lee, who also has a crush on Sakura?  Was it okay to lie to Naruto, saying that she no longer cares about Sasuke and has moved onto Naruto?  Is it really worth it, if it means backstabbing you're own friends and going behind their backs?  I asked him 'what about Lee's feelings?', and if I remember correctly he said he never was a fan of him and doesn't really care about his feelings.  Yeah…

If Sakura really doesn't really care about Sasuke anymore, why does she still refer to him as "Sasuke-kun"?  Why not drop all familiarity?  BTW, I know that "-kun" and "-chan" don't mean you're in love with someone.  Another important thing to remember is that its thanks to Naruto, that Sakura doesn't have to give up her dream of Team 7 being together again.  She quietly thanks him for this, giving her hope and faith.  Kishimoto himself has hinted that Sakura still loves Sasuke.

I talked it over with him and he told me that while he doesn't like NaruHina, he likes Hinata as a character.  And he at least says I am free to support whatever pairing I want...  but said that is his right to tell me what's wrong with the couple.  If you're telling me why my couple is wrong, then how am I free to like that couple if you're dissing it?

I'm sure he's aware of Hinata's feelings, but he IS one of those people who go by the "rules" of Shonen; such as the HeroxTsundere one.  He told me I was ignorant to the "rules".  Sounds like some destiny bull crap to me, it was like he was "Neji" and I was "Hinata/Naruto"!  And he also laughed at my also "ignorant" rant about abusive coupling and said "Well, at least you know better now".  Son of a-!  Who cares even IF its a Shonen rule?!  This is Kishimoto's work!  As Kishimoto himself said, his story is more unique than other stories.  Which could mean he can bend the expectations of Shonen!

By the way, don't bash, attack, flame, or spam lordofice72!  Just because the two of us have different views, doesn't give us the right to hate on him.  Don't show a bad example.  Just so I'm clear, LEAVE HIM ALONE!

The truth within the truth:
NaruSaku fans took Kushina's speech, in Chapter 504, about women way too literally!  She told Naruto not to pick a weird girl.  Seriously, don't take her people words so literally!  Even IF this was literal, there are a few different ways to look at it: Kushina is far from being normal herself.  Both she and Naruto were also considered weirdoes and made fun of in their childhoods.  Kushina also thought Minato was weird at first and didn't think much of him.  "Someone like your mother" most likely meant someone who loves her son as much as her.  To be fair to NaruSaku fans, Kushina probably meant weird as in girls like Ino and Karin.  Base upon the descriptions of Kushina's past, personality, and appearance, Hinata, Ino, and Karin are more qulitified that Sakura.  Sakura was also considered weird herself, the whole forehead thing, and she was made fun of in her childhood.  Naruto found Sakura's "confession" 'weird' because it was coming completely out of the blue.  And Naruto changed his opinion of Hinata from 'weird' to "I kind of like people like you".

Why do I say all the people I mentioned are weirdoes?  Think about it!  Why do we make fun of people or ignore them?  Its because they're different from us or have different views than us.  And we think they're weird, we judge them, we belittle them, we outcast them, or we consider them a threat.  If we consider them a big enough threat he 'defend' ourselves and attack them.  Just like I'm sure NaruSaku fans will and have attacked me because I have my own opinions and interests.

People say Sakura has pink hair so she's the right choice.  Wait, Karin and Karui are both tough girls and are redheads!  If we needed someone with hair color like Kushina, they'd be the right choice.

Oh, and the real translation wasn't "Don't pick a weird girl".  It was "Don't just fall for the first girl that comes your way.".  .........where do I go from this?

Some symbolism:
Remember the Hyuuga clan's Yin-Yang symbol with the 8 Trigrams around it?  And remember the Senju clan was about the power of Yin and Yang.  Naruto now possesses the Yang power (of the Kyuubi), which gives him the power to create life.  Its been evidenced that Naruto is a descendant of the Senju clan, even possibly The First Hokage himself.  I think Kishimoto wants to tell us that the Hyuuga clan are perfect candidates for joining with the Senju clan or its descendants.  But what does this say about the Uzumaki clan?  All I see is that the Hyuuga crest resembles the Uzumaki crest, but what can we get from that?

Reverse Mirrors:
NaruSaku fans have been comparing their couple to JiraTsu, MinaKushi, and now YahiKonan.  I find it a little ironic that they keep comparing "dead" couples.

JiraTsu, I can understand, but after Jiraiya's death, I'm guessing it just wasn't meant to be...    Its really sad…  Also, I would've liked to see it happen.  In the end, before Jiraiya died, the two never established a romatic relationship, but came to be great friends...

MinaKushi, they compare because of Kushina's personality.  But Naruto got his personality, habits, and traits from his mother.  If Sakura doesn't like Naruto's antics, what makes people think she'd get along with Kushina?  Another thing they say is Naruto and Minato are both blondes.  While Sakura's hair is pink, which is a mixture of white and red, and Kushina is a redhead.  Minato and Kushina are two separate characters and the only resembling them is their own son.  Also their 'personality and hair color comparisons' idea complicates with their YahiKonan comparison idea.

YahiKonan, that's a laugh!  Didn't NaruSaku fans just make their hair and personality comparisons with MinaKushi?  Yahiko's hair is orange, a mixture of yellow and red, that's how they get Naruto.  While Konan's hair is blue.  But that would give us Hinata, whose hair is dark blue.  And this would point us to NaruHina.  And both Yahiko's and Konan's personalities are closer to Naruto and Hinata.  Does this mean YahiKonan matches with NaruHina?  NO!  YahiKonan actually mirrors SasuSaku!  Despite their personalities, the manga has made these comparisons, Naruto=Nagato, Sasuke=Yahiko, and Sakura=Konan.  Need proof?  Look at Chapter 442's cover page!  Need more proof?  Naruto was named after Nagato, Jiraiya's inspiration of writing "Tales of A Gutsy Ninja".  And both Naruto and Nagato were from the Uzumaki clan.

ObiRin, this one has some comparisons.  However, unlike Sakura, Rin never took sides with her crush.  When Kakashi and Obito were arguing she would try to get them both to calm down.  She also didn't have a anger problem or show any signs of hostility towards Obito.

KonoMoe, I think this is what its called.  I am unsure because as far I know, NO ONE really supports this couple.  KonoHanabi is more popular, mainly because there are NaruHina comparisons, but I'm not going into that...  In the anime, the animators are trying to make Moegi into a Sakura Jr..  Hey NaruSaku fans, can you say "filler"?

As most of us know, Kishimoto has based Naruto's life off of his own.  And he has taken some inspiration from the Dragon Ball series.  But there's something we didn't know.  I remember a while back reading something from Wikipedia, I believe.  According to what I read, Kishimoto's wife is similar to Hinata.  However, this means absolutely nothing because they are real people.  And Kishimoto doesn't have to base everything off of real life experiences or another series.  So DON'T read to much into this.  In all honesty, I got upset when I read this.  Maybe its that I felt I was given the ending of a book or something...

Bonds:
Some NaruSaku fans say that when Naruto transformed into the Kyuubi, with six tails, that he would've done this for anyone.  They're dead wrong!  Naruto's canon transformations has only occurred when he believes one of his closest friends or someone he shares a close bond with, is dead.  This has happened with Sasuke, Gaara, and now Hinata.  They say stuff like "He would've done this for anyone, even Choji.".  Bull!  Choji isn't one of Naruto's closest friends he has a bond with.  Even though Naruto has never transformed for Sakura, would he have?  Of course!  She IS one his closest bonds.  One important thing to remember is that he was able to access the Kyuubi's power willingly when he tried to save Sakura from Shukaku.  There are only four people I can think of, who Naruto would transform for.  And those people are Sasuke, Sakura, Gaara, and Hinata.

I agree with everything you said. This is a great rant!

For me, Naruto and Sakura have more of a brother-sister like relationship.

And its outrageously annoying when they're [Naruto and Sakura] compared with other couples, who are not even parallel to them (with the exception of JiraTsun).

Thank you.

Indeed.  And with all these comparisons, the "pairing" pretty much loses all sense of uniqueness because there's nothing original about it anymore...

Good rant, even if it was a little unfocused.  I think that Kishimoto played with the idea of  Team 7 triangle, but modified & then abandoned it as he deepened his story about the time of the timeskip. Hinata emerged as the more typical (and popular) shounen manga love interest who encourages the hero to do his best. Hinata's original cute crush on the roguish hero who motivated her to do better became a deep infatuation after the timeskip, which indicates like the rest of the character changes that Kishimoto intended for it to happen. Hinata's love for Naruto wasn't all played for lulz, she had become a competent chuunin, high in the esteem of her team, her cousin, and her father. However, like a good shounen heroine, Hinata also retained a caring & kind nature, loving Naruto for himself. Naruto for his own part, became the sort of guy Hinata could fall in love with. Of course, as in most character development matters, the love between them has had to squeeze itself into the story between epic battles, training for said epic battles, and long-winded exposition on being a ninja hero in Naruto's world. Heck, Naruto said as much when he caught up to Hinata during his charge onto the battlefield in the Fourth Shinobi War. But he's understood and accepted Hinata's feelings, as she has kept him focused on his nindo, and three times rescued him from despair versus a more powerful opponent (Neji, Pain-Nagato, Tobi). Yeah, the end of the series should see her quietly but steadfastly standing at his side.

Now as for Sakura, she has been a fun heroine, and Naruto's story wouldn't be the same if she was still the fangirl cheerleader she was in episode 3. But when Sasuke cut & run he shattered Team 7's fractious but supportive build forever. Those days are gone for better or worse, and all of Naruto's posing & teasing won't bring them back. Sakura, bless her, realized after the failed retrieval mission that she had asked Naruto to stake his life on a selfish & thoughtless request, and resolved to do better. So post-skip she is a better kunoichi and a better person, aptly suited to have Naruto's back on a mission, but not become his beloved. So, what happened? Well, Kishimoto's emergent theme of the present mirroring the past, but providing the means for a better future, for one. Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke are the new Sannin, just as their three masters were before them. But the first Sannin were sundered by their desires and their choices regarding those desires. Sasuke nicely mirrored Orochimaru, and Sakura unwittingly mirrored Tsunade by keeping Naruto at arm's length until she one day realized he was a powerhouse hero in his won right, who didn't need her help, except to heal him after another reckless battle. And her place as his inspiration and moral support was now taken by Hinata, who could honestly look Naruto in the eye and confess her feelings for him. Unlike Sakura, whose confession fell flat since her true feelings were not bent on supporting Naruto but deceiving him. Ouch! So they'll be good friends, and Naruto will ask her for a date now and then, but she's in the friendzone, and if she wants Sasuke back on her terms, he won't get in the way.

Heh, thanks.  And yes, you do an excellent job explaining Hinata's love for Naruto.  As well as how she has been patient with him and calm him down when he needed someone to talk to.

Me?  I imagine Hinata's final scene showing her pregnant and the child is heavily implied to be Naruto's.

And you did well explaining Sakura and her bond with Naruto.  Sakura tries to be a good friend.  They'll be casually talking to each other or walking together, but it's all platonic.  Especially in Sakura's POV.

Sakura does mean well, even if her actions are very questionable.

Despite Naruto asking her out dates (and always getting rejected) he has never really made a serious move on her.  Naruto knows Sakura's feelings for Sasuke will never vanish, so he wouldn't dare interfere.  He knows he will never be with her romantically, but he is living his life doing as he normally does.

However, the two never really talk to each other about their problems.  They just silently watch and think about what the other is going through.  As stated before, the only girl who has actually understood AND talked to him was Hinata.  And her words actually do manage to break through to him.  Naruto has found strength and confidence from Hinata when he needed it most.  Perhaps that's what Naruto was looking for when he liked Sakura, but he never realized he was looking in the wrong place (person)...

Naruto's crush on Sakura in the first series was part of his ongoing search for acknowledgement and acceptance. Even on her worst day, Naruto put up with it because, Sakura was responding to him and looking at him. As opposed to 95% of Konoha. Sakura in turn never disliked Naruto, but he wasn't what she wanted as a boyfriend, or friend some days. Sakura eventually began to realize that Naruto & Sasuke had a closer relationship than she had with either of them. Sasuke also acknowledged Naruto, but regarded him as a friend of sorts who was always ready to help Sasuke get what he wanted. (The rivalry of growing strength is the power of youth!  ) So if the two boys are being friends of a sort and using it to build their ninja careers, that left her outside, looking in. And right about the time Sakura buckled down and resolved to catch up, Sasuke left and took away her crutch & excuse for not living up to her own potential. Then about the time Sakura was ready to step alongside Naruto with a Sannin master and intensive training of her own, he left on a three-year tour. The filler seasons are actually useful here, silly parts or no silly parts. Sakura was offscreen most of the time studying with Tsunade, while Naruto went on 4 missions with Hinata, and nailed down the acknowledgement he had won from his peers in the Chuunin exams & the retrieval mission. Sakura got stronger, but only went on 1 mission with Naruto after becoming Tsunade's apprentice.

When Naruto returned at the beginning of Shippuden, she initaily thought he was same old Naruto, albeit taller, more assured, and more handsome. But Naruto had seen something of the world, and he knew enough about himself that he didn't need constant assurance of acknowledgement to keep him from imploding. And to really beat Sakura with the irony stick again, when Naruto & Pain where doubling down and he really needed someone to get his back, she was stuck healing all the wounded from earlier. She got to watch Hinata jump in front of the Pain bus and take her role...and then get to heal Hinata while 8-tailed Naruto & Pain rearranged the nearby landscape.  And Sakura knew at the time Naruto what Naruto needed in support, she was genuinely worried after seeing him in 4-tails mode against Orochimaru and realizing about 3 years too late why he wanted her affection & attention so much. After the bungled rescue of the unwilling Sasuke, Sakura was nicer to Naruto, but kept him at arm's length again when the chance to become closer sometimes happened. But she was still sidelined as a healer while Hinata got her confession off and pledged her devotion to Naruto's nindo again.

We've already mentioned the false confession and its result. Tobi's mighty world-swapping genjutsu (shoehorned into the war prep phase) let Sakura walk a few kilometers in Naruto's shoes, and she found herself not liking it at all. She was sick of living alone, acknowledged but solitary after a couple of days, but she knew that was the story of Naruto's life. Sakura finally got to step up beside him to defeat Naruto's evil twin and help Naruto reject the dream of what could be for the reality where he was truly welcome. Too bad she and Naruto would be the only ones to know it!  And then he left again to go train on Turtle Island with Bee, and the next time she saw him he was on the battlefield showing everyone how to take on S-rank opponents, living or zombie. And Hinata stepped up to inspire Naruto again, while she was busy healing, again. (Hinata was even the first person to get the kyuubi chakra boost!) The people Sakura wanted to help the most were Sasuke & Naruto but Hinata was the one who helped Naruto when it counted, and Sasuke had helped himself without her....maybe.

Mm-hm.

Mm-hm.

Yes, a shame that only these few knew about this fantasy world.

Yeah.  Rather it's filler or canon, despite what limited time she spent with Naruto, Hinata has shown more of a developing bond with him than his own teammates.  And that bond has shown to have a grand impact on each other.

Zeonista In reply to Lawman09 [2014-01-08 18:16:25 +0000 UTC]

The "great impact" is what ultimately swung me over to NaruHina side of things. Hinata's crush wasn't just a crush, it was her impetus to become a better person. Then she turned he love into a way to support Naruto. Hinata is a giver & nurturer personality, she is a great for Naruto that way. However, she is turning into a defender-protector as much as Naruto!
