Description
This is a horse I'm drawing. I guess technically it should be a scrap since it's unfinished. I posted it to get some opinions on what I should do for the background. Solid black paper? Subtle lines to suggest a landscape? Nothing at all? Mountains and clouds? Suggestions welcome.Note: I'm waiting to drawing one of the feet until I know exactly what the horse is stepping on.

Even if it is unfinished it looks fine to me. Clearly other people have seen it and they too consider it good art.

Well it is good but the real pic is from google because when I type in "Horses" the first thing that pops up is that pic in color

It looks like an arab, so make it sand with sand dunes in the back ground and sun on its side so that it's shiny. Or and african savannah with huge trees in the back.

Don't scrap it!! It is truly amazing! Hmm.. for the background I might suggest using subtle and light lines, that suggest a mountain/hills in the background? But maybe only the outlines of the hills and trees (etc.) of the background, otherwise it may draw attention off of the horse.
AMAZING drawing, you have a real talent!! Keep up the drawing, your brilliant at it!
Please tell me if you ever post a new/updated version of this and any of your other drawings, I love to see them!

I think it's perfect the way it is. Don't change anything. It looks like he/she is running through a meadow right before a thunderstorm to find shelter and safety, while dark clouds and sky surround.

Honestly, as a pencil artist myself, I have to say, leave it. The contrast of the white horse against the black background is beautiful as it is. I agree with another poster that the horse needs more curve in the back and I would add more mane and forelock. Minor adjustments to a beautiful picture.

i have a pet hate about backgrounds i guess cause im rubbish at doing them, so i would say this a fab piece no background needed. i can see you made an alteration on the back line, i would have kept more of a curve along the backline, i guess thats what you thought at first too. love it

Maybe draw in the forlock? I think the hind leg would be more bent, but thats just me.

I really like this, and I see the ghost of part of the horse, so to speak in the black background. . . I am thinking why not make that something? In other words, develop the "ghost" part (as it is around the head), with the rest--as if the horse's double is running with him. . but just as a ghost image. It is really quite beautiful. By drawing too much background, it might be too distracting from the figure itself. . .

Be careful of a 'halo effect' where the background, when you color it, shows an outline of the horse. I've done it so many times. It looks really good however, the muscle tone is amazing!

Seeing as it's a white horse a landscape background might be lovely. Or you could get a little mixed media and pull out the black in and create a starlit sky.

I agree about the ears being a little small, also it seems that this horse has half of a mane and no forelock. Possible adjustments, but all in all, its beautiful.
