A surprise visitor when I was at Duxford Air Museum. A Spitfire went up for a fly past. Wonderful to see, and hear.Related content

The Spitfire is my favorite plane of WW 2.......the design has an elegance missing in military planes and vehicles.

That's exactly right. I'm not really into planes or cars or anything like that but the Spitfire has a grace that is rarely seen in a machine.

Did you see the new "Dunkirk" ? There are excellent scenes with real vintage WW 2 Spitfires in action. The Spitfire stirs the imagination because of the valiant little Spitfires defending the "island" from the evil Luftwaffe

The is something about the Spitfire though. There were more Hurricanes which had more success but the Spitfire has a beauty and grace that is rare in a machine.
They are all currently grounded while the engines are checked over.
