I also got distracted by the name of the church. It's so interesting how similar the languages of Iceland and Germany are in some parts (Standarkirkja would translate to Strandkirche in German!), and then in other parts, it looks completely different, like all the words with the many Fs and Ls in it.Β

There are some fantastic words in Iceland. I want to learn their language
There seem to be two kinds of church in Iceland. Either traditional wooden churches or quite new and modern churches like this one.

Yes there is a strong Scandinavian connection but that makes sense. Iceland only became independent in 1918 but was still part of Denmark. Before that it was owned by Norway and then Denmark. It became an independent republic in 1944.Β 
So you were good to spot that
