I like that there's no floor in the picture. It adds to the impression that he's flying.

its great... but if would be from the different angel, such as top or rear i think it might be a little better... now it seems like it is digitally controlled...

Not much I can do about shooting during a performance..... just have to go with what's in front of me...

Great shot, and my favorite thing is how his head is aligned with his hand in one clean line. The line on his back leg through his foot is very clean. Shame about the pink...

Yep, very "tasteful" lighting on the cyclorama..

Very well taken, but I would have preferred if his arm wasn't infront of his face.
Except from that I really liked it

He reminds me of Vladimir Malakhov
especially because of his "Voyage"

hmm nice...but not as clean as your usual photos? Reading the comments, I'm guessing the lighting was a bit weird...

Lighting was uneven..to say the least.. shots ok.. sort of...

Lovely capture, though this always makes me flinch when I see that jump, as it's the one I broke my foot on His is wonderful though.

He, he .. it's not the fall that kills... only the sudden stop at the end.

i'll tell you im not a fan of the background i don't know why but the main reason i was so awe inspired was the pose, i love the pose and how dramatic its is. the backgound just doesnt seem to g=fit the pose i guess is what i am trying to say

..not much I could do about it... if the dancers were upstage O.P. they were almost in the dark and on centre, completely overlit...makes photography interesting!

citizenfour [2006-08-21 23:12:11 +0000 UTC]

i guess the focus tracking works on that thing...

any dings yet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lawrencew In reply to citizenfour [2006-08-22 00:05:47 +0000 UTC]

Had it on single focus ... had to, (lighting was so patchy that a reading taken 5 feet from shot position would have been 2-3 stops diffferent)... missed some jumps when the contrast was too low for focus to lock on and then the shutter shot late ..(bugger).. but otherwise pretty good (70-200 F4, f5@1/125, 3200 iso). White balance on auto is pretty good too. Nope, no dings, well no major ones, yet. Also, just bought the Mk2 cheapy 50 mm... geez, it's sharp...Very happy with what these lenses are producing.

there's a custom function (C. Fn) in buried in the camera's menu for a thing called "Safety Shift" which might avail you in situations like this and allow you to use AI Servo focusing and Drive mode. i've only used it one time and only to understand what it does. theoretically it should help you get more keepers in fast changing light. just in case you hadn't found it yet...

lawrencew In reply to citizenfour [2006-08-22 10:36:58 +0000 UTC]

Ta for that... remember the days when a camera manual was 5 pages long........?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

citizenfour In reply to lawrencew [2006-08-22 10:53:28 +0000 UTC]

and a page of that was devoted to why you shouldn't shoot backlit subjects and the sunny 16 rule.
