Description Shot by a friend whilst invading the Renaissance Festival in Harveysburg, Ohio.

A photo of my spearman's armor from the side. This is a current version with some notable differences from the earlier incarnation. Unlike the Uruk-Hai from the movies, this armor boasts a full maille hauberk that reaches down to the knees and is split up the middle for riding instead of being split on the hips. I also have a girdle belt underneath the breastplate that helps distribute the weight of the maille and gives me lots of places to hang weapons and sundry other things. My only regret about this pic is that you can't see the horseman's hammer hanging from my right hip. It makes people cringe when they look at it.

Full weight of the armor is 93 pounds. The armor is of my making as is the spear, the belt, boots, and gloves are the creation of another artist. I also made the clothes.

Fantastic workmanship! Always good to find other crafty reenactment folk on DevArt ^_^

I don't suppose you've ever considered taking up the SCA as a side hobby?

If it weren't for the silly background vehicles then I might use this. The other one was too pretty to pass up.

Oh hey I've been to that faire! I was the idiot dying because she wore a black full-length mage robe and there are apparently no shade trees in the whole faire. ~melt~

Anyway you look awesome in that armor and DEFINITELY I find it ID-worthy.

There are plenty of shade trees. Are you sure you've been to ORF? I'm probably going to go once more this year. I usually get stuck in shops with my group and miss the shows.

Is your toe still bothering you? Or did I just miss an age joke? Always missing the age jokes, I am.

Oh I'm old.
I think I was there about 15 years ago - maybe the trees have grown since then.

I now feel it incumbent on me, as your loyal watcher, to respectfully DEMAND some pictorial representation of not only your fantastic armor and accouterments in a more detailed, piecemeal fashion, but also the work shop and/or tools you utilize to accomplish such wondrous works.

Please?

Well, I do plan some detailed shots of this when I disassemble it to redo the leather tack on the inside, so part of your wish will be granted.

I would perish from embarrassment if you saw pictures of my shop. It is in horrible shape right now. So much so that it takes me an hour to move things around before I have enough room to work. Maybe when some organization falls from the sky and strikes my vulnerable head. Thanks for the request, though.

That armor is so awesome.

Also there is something inherently hot about a guy who makes his own armor, weapons, and clothes.

I have said too much! *jettisons*

Well, you're safely married, so you're off-limits. Tractor beams deactivated.

It is nice to know that those of the opposite gender find that sort of thing attractive. Otherwise, I wouldn't know this. You people are so darned mysterious. Not that I'll be using the pick-up line, "Hey, I make clothes out of fabric AND metal. How's that for cool?" anytime soon. Although, if this were S.M. Sterling's version of America, I'd be all set. There's some books you might like if you haven't read them already.

I've not heard of Sterling's work, I might have to look into it when I finish the behemoth that is To Green Angel Tower (seriously, you know your book is a little long when you have to break it into two for paperback format).

And I wouldn't judge all womens' taste on mine. I am a weird one. Of course, you already know that buuuut

Maybe I'm looking for the weird ones. In fact, they're probably the only kind that would put up with me.
