Description Another story piece! This one takes place when Twyla is around 3 years old, maybe a bit younger.

---------

TW: Ableism, racism, mentions of institutionalization and ABA therapy

Twyla scrunched her beak when they walked through the building. She wasn't very keen on the scent of eucalyptus and patchouli coming from the diffusers. Still, even if she tried to voice her concerns, people just didn't seem to listen.

Upon arriving at the office, they were greeted by a short, goat-like doctor. Twyla looked at her papa for comfort, not quite comforable with the presence of a stranger.

"So! This must be Euthanasia!" He reached out to pet Twyla, but she hissed at him.

"Anastasia." Stolas corrected, inching her away. "Dr. Amanita recommended she get assessed..."

Assessed? But why? She was fine, she had a loving papa, food and anything else she might need. Why did she need to be assessed? Alas, no matter how much she protested and insisted she was fine, they didn't listen.

So she sat for what felt like hours in that little chair. The doctor kept asking her questions but didn't seem to understand her answers. Twyla began to get frustrated, then started to wail and yell. What was worse was that the doctor just ignored that she was frustrated and just talked to her papa.

"Is she always like this when things don't go her way?"

"Well, I-"

"Can she speak beyond this horrid screeching?"

"She communicates fine!"

"Tell me, how are her social skills?" He asked. What did this even have to do with anything? Why was he concerned about "social skills?"

"Well...she's a bit shy around strangers...but if she's with me she's perfectly fine!"

"So in other words, she's completely dependent on you?"

Why'd he say that like it was a bad thing?

"Listen to me, your highness. If that thing can't learn to properly socialize with others beside you, she will have to go to an institute. I suggest is enrolled in ABA therapy so she can be properly trained and-"

"Absolutely not! I will not have my daughter trained like some dog!" Stolas yelled. Twyla didn't like it when he yelled, so she covered her ears. "I can see now this was a waste of time."

"Look, I'm only speaking the truth! Imps like her are prone to have severe attachment issues!" The doctor shouted back.

"My daughter isn't just an imp. I'd appreciate it if you and everyone else understood that." Stolas growled, trying his best to not lose his temper. "Come on dear, we aren't listening to this nonsense." Stolas quickly grabbed Twyla, picking her up. She stayed quiet for the entire ride back home, and Stolas noticed it almost immediately.

"Don't worry darling...I like you the way you are..." he said while rubbing her head.

Twyla gave a small squeak. Still, she was filled with doubt from what the doctor said...

She didn't want to be taken away....
