This is probably an old subject, but I thought I'd give my 2-cents about thisOkay, this is fan art of the controversial game "Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights" Most of ya'll probably know it for being a "Professor Layton rip-off". No offense but people who say that irk me a little bit. Believe me, I'm as much of a Layton fangirl as the next person, and this is comming from a biased-Layton fan.
I played it, and enjoyed it a lot. I honestly can't look at the doctor as being the slightest bit similar to Layton. And the gameplay mechanics are very different too. Yes, there are puzzles. But most of the game consists of navigating dungeons and fighting monsters in an rpg-style gameplay.
Not to say Konami isn't at fault for this. I really wish they took more time and effort to design Doctor lautrec, to not look like the professor and garner so much hate. And his "apprentice" Sophie (character in the artwork) may act a little bit like Luke at times, but her relationship with Lautrec versus Luke's relationship with Layton is a lot different
TL;DR Doctor lautrec is not a Layton rip-off and more people should give it a chance.
/feels like the only Doctor Lautrec fan in exsistance

I have not yet played Professor Layton, but have played this. My brother is a huge Layton fan, and I asked him if Lautrec was a ripoff, his reply "HELL NO"

Aww that's just lovely. I love Sophie, she is everything I wish Flora was in the Layton games (Except for the spirit thing) Great character, great personality, great voice. I like her so much. 
And yes I agree with you 100%. Anyone who goes around calling Lautrec a Professor Layton Rip-off likely hasn't even played the game in the first place. The game isn't even anywhere near similar to Layton (apart from the puzzle sections but even those are presented in a different way) or as bad as many reviewers made it out to be. I honestly think people compare Lautrec too much with Layton which is probably why they didn't enjoy it as much.
I should probably make more fan art of this series and try to encourage a few people to give the series a (second) chance. Konami should definitely make a sequel.

I'll actually get that game when its like... cheaper. I had too many gameplayers telling me like they didn't exactly had fun or like the game, when it eventually descends into repetition. So I guess they got bored pretty easily X:
Funny I would be just mostly be interested in the cutscenes to see how it goes with the story. xD

I one hundred percent agree with you.
I love Doctor Lautrec it's a wonderful game and as you said, gameplay is totally different. I've told my friends and even showed them how different it is and they're just too stubborn about it. It's kind of aggravating that people just judge by looking at a little bit of it.
But people will be people and just assume things and making asses of themselves.
