I wish I could read Chinese!  My mom forced me to take a college class in Chinese, but I had to drop it.  I spent a lot of time writing characters over and over again, but that just made me recognize the words without having any idea what they meant. LOL

Haha!  I know how that is!  I took Russian in college.  I learned the cyrillic alphabet, and when I see Russian, I can usually pronounce it (well... I used to be able to pronounce it...  That was over 10 years ago and I haven't kept up with practicing it, so I've forgotten most of it by now...) but I have no idea what anything means!

People get really confused trying to figure out exactly how much Chinese I speak.  I always say that I can't speak Chinese well, but I usually forget to mention that I can listen to it somewhat okay sometimes.  Today my mom was talking to my dad in Chinese, and they didn't realize I could understand what they were saying because my dad told my mom in Chinese to tell me what she had just said.
