He was like, Hey! dont u dare step on my drawing! I put alot of effort into it and now youre gonna mess it up.
Though, honestly, looking through the drawing, there was a much easier way out of the drawing which takes about two steps and it also leads away from toothless too.
Hiccup chose a path that took around 10 steps and it brought right under Toothless, which kinda makes me think whether or not he did that on purpose to try and get a chance to touch toothless.
