Description
10. You're Only Second Rate (from The Return of Jafar) - Yes, Jafar technically had a villain song in the form of a mocking reprise of Prince Ali in Aladdin, but this is a full-length song where he proceeds to taunt Genie and kick his butt while tormenting him and Abu before kidnapping them.
9. It Feels So Good To Be Bad (from All Dogs Go To Heaven 2) - Sung by Red (George Hearn, one of the original Sweeney Todds), complete with an Actor Allusion where he shaves Carface at one point.
8. I Go Loony (from The Killing Joke) - It's sung by Mark Hamill where the Joker torments Jim Gordon, trying to convince him to go mad. Toward the end of the song, he tortures Gordon even further by taking him through a tunnel displaying photos of his daughter being shot. What makes it all the more bone-chilling is Gordon screaming his daughter's name as the Joker finishes his song.
7. The World's Greatest Criminal Mind (from The Great Mouse Detective) - Sung by Ratigan (the late Vincent Price), Ratigan details all of his crimes, what he's plotting to do, and his lackeys sing all about how great he is, until Bartholomew drunkenly calls him a rat, at which point, the song is briefly interrupted by Ratigan throwing him out of his lair and feeding him to his cat, Felicia, and then resumes when Ratigan subtly threatens them with the bell he uses to call Felicia.
6. Playing with the Big Boys Now (from The Prince of Egypt) - Technically, Hotep and Huy are not the true threats of the movie, that honor goes to Rameses later on. However, they taunt Moses by invoking their gods and using smoke and mirror tricks to create their own snakes, which are then gobbled up by Moses' staff-turned-snake.
5. Hellfire (from The Hunchback of Notre Dame) - Sung by Frollo (the late Tony Jay), Frollo realizes he's in lust with Esmeralda while praying. His prayer ends up devolving into him declaring that he is not to blame for his lust for Esmeralda and that she herself is to blame, begging Maria (the Virgin Mary) for protection, for Esmeralda's destruction and declaring upon learning that Esmeralda has escaped Notre Dame, that he'll find her even if he has to burn down all of Paris. He ends the song by declaring that if she will not be his, she will burn.
4. Poor Unfortunate Souls (from The Little Mermaid) - Sung by Ursula (Pat Carroll), Ursula lures Ariel into making a deal with her. She will make Ariel a human for three days. If by the end of those three days Eric does kiss her, Ariel will become human forever. If he doesn't, however, Ariel will turn back into a mermaid and she'll belong to Ursula. In exchange for her legs, Ursula wants her voice. By the end of the song, Ursula casts a spell that takes Ariel's voice and transforms her into a human, at which point Ariel nearly drowns until Sebastian and Flounder save her and bring her up to the surface.
3. Be Prepared (from The Lion King - 1994) - Sung by Scar (Jeremy Irons, with Jim Cummings taking over toward the end after Jeremy Irons ended up throwing out his voice while singing, "YOU WON'T GET A SNIFF WITHOUT ME!"), Scar allies himself with the hyenas while subtly insulting them, plots to kill Mufasa and Simba so he can take over Pride Rock, and promises that if the hyenas ally with him, they will never go hungry again. I consider this song to be the better version of the one we got two years ago where they basically butchered it and cut it off before it could really get started. If anything, it was mostly just an angry poem with Scar and the hyenas just climbing the rocks while chanting, "Be Prepared." If asked which version of The Lion King I prefer, I will happily point to the hand-drawn animated movie as the movie I love better than the photorealistic movie Jon Favreau churned out.
2. Friends on the Other Side (from The Princess and The Frog) - Sung by Dr. Facilier (Keith David), Facilier lures Prince Naveen and his servant, Lawrence, into his shop, reads their tarot fortunes, and tricks them both into making a deal with him to get what they want (Naveen to be free and "hop" from place to place with no woman to tie him down and Lawrence to be the man he always wanted to be). After they shake hands with Dr. Facilier, Facilier summons his "Friends on the Other Side", uses a voodoo talisman to steal Naveen's blood and allow Lawrence to masquerade as Naveen, and transforms Naveen into a frog while singing, "I hope you're satisfied! But if you ain't, don't blame me! You can blame my Friends on the Other Side!" and finishes the song off with a very impressive evil laugh as his Friends join in, "You got what you wanted, but you lost what you had!"
Honorable Mentions:
Trust in Me (both versions by Sterling Holloway and Scarlett Johansson)
Mine, Mine, Mine
Savages
Yodel-Adle-Eedle-Idle-Oo
Oogie Boogie's Song
Snuff Out the Light
Master of the Seas
He is Dave
The Plagues
Pretty Bird
How Bad Can I Be?
Don't Make Me Laugh
Queen of Mean
And last, but certainly not least!
1. In the Dark of the Night (from Anastasia) - Sung by Rasputin (Jim Cummings doing a very convincing impression of Christopher Lloyd), Rasputin expresses glee that he can take revenge on the last surviving Romanov, Anastasia, and uses his reliquary and his dark powers to send his minions after her to kill her. I rated this song Number 1, because it's a very catchy villain song sung in a major key, with backup power chords played by none other than Jim Steinman, an ominous pipe organ playing at a few points, and, yes, I even love the backup chorus being sung by the bugs. It's even inspired a few other villain parodies in the comments on YouTube (Voldemort to name one example).
