It's just a kitty I've met around caves. It's mom is quite wild I think.

Firstly, this is a fine example of how, with consideration, can take an otherwise general subject and create an interesting photo. It is clear that this photo has had some forethought prior to it being taken. The critical elements in the piece are the line, colour and contrast, and each has been used well.

The line in this image I find has been very cunningly woven in. The Kitten’s whiskers provide all the line in the image and the way they reach across the whole photo. This has the effect of drawing the eye not only inwards towards the face of the kitten but outwards into the background, which I think is a good aspect of it. Generally a lot of people use a background to isolate a portion of the photo, however here, the background is apart of the photo which is consequence of the line – a good job indeed. However, on the topic of background, the fur highlights in the background detract from the overall image. The clouded appearance, due to the focal length, blemishes the image rather than adding depth. Personally I would’ve tried to remove it so as to give the background more solidity and definition. Additionally the whiskers in the foreground particularly the one closest to the eye in the foreground irritates the eye. Unfortunately I don’t see much of a way around this really and you’ve done well to minimise the interruption to only one whisker. Unless you want to pluck poor kitty’s whiskers there’s not much asides from changing perspective you could to do change that. Though if you’re particularly clever in brushes and photo-shop you could give it a swing in there – though that’s definitely not my forte, you could inquire with some others who’d have better info for you on that.

I’ve also enjoyed the tone and colour of this image as well. The sharp contrast between tones is what hits you at first but then you notice the subtle warm undertones, which I find simply delightful. The warm pink tones serve two main purposes in this image. Firstly it brings life and warmth to the kitten. You really get a feel for the life within the kitten which is great and additionally it compliments the strong blue hues in the eyes. Further more the strong pink of the nose also contrasts the eyes and fur, whilst bringing life to the kitten. The definition in the fur and facial features is great though I would have brought the focus closer to the eye in the foreground rather than the eye further back in the mid ground.

On a detracting note though, your web-link printed on the image doesn’t fit in well. While quite transparent and somewhat un-obtrusive, I find that a subtle water mark to identify your work is best so as not to harm the overall effect. As such if you want to identify your work and provide a link, put it in a border underneath a title or something to the effect. Otherwise, if possible, use a stamp like icon to identify your work, it’s subtler and it won’t detract from the photo. I don’t use stamps myself, but either-way that’s really up to you to decide upon.

Overall the execution, perspective and colour compliment each other quite well and work to serve the purpose. While I doubt you’ll draw many people in with a concept or idea behind the image – the simple use of aesthetics do enough to provoke interest in the photo. A very good job indeed.

Cheers guys.

Beautiful composition. I love how the whiskers fill up most of the shot, and make this definitely more than a 'ohlookanothercuteanimal!' photo.
