May Aeon, the God of Time, bless you and keep you polluted with creativity. This is one of my all-time eternally favorite quotes from the (past and future) Brigadier. I was watching WEB OF FEAR just this morning, and it struck me how well Nicholas Courtney conveyed his pain at losing his men. It was so understated, but that moment when he snaps, "I said so, didn't I?" When they query his statement about his dead men. Oh, it was brilliant. And the fact that the Doctor nearly killed himself trying to rescue the doomed Knight from the Yeti...that was all the more poignant because he failed and the Colonel simply began to GIVE UP when he learned Knight was dead...OUCH! Knight resembled Benton in so many ways...I think the writers regretted killing Knight off...it made my heart hurt to watch it happen onscreen...
Oh. And let me know in advance if you ever make Brig, Sarah or Victoria friendly art from DOWNTIME, so I can light candles in your honor.

You know, the way the Brigadier talked about the Doctor gets me right in the heart every time: because the Brig was not an easy man to impress by any means. He was the sort of man who'd offer praise only when it was hard earned, and even then he'd be guarded. So it's evident that when he spoke with open respect about someone, that person was truly extraordinary.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to have a little cry....

Reading a review of of THE THREE DOCTORS, someone pointed out that the 2nd Doctor seemed to prefer the Brig's presence, but the Brig himself showed no favoritism to either Doctor--but he DID jape with Two. With Three he was MUCH more dry!! The twinkle never left Courtney's eye when he played the part. I just love him.
