Love the photo  only the background keeps distracting a bit

Why don't you try to blur it a little bit? It would help to bring all of the attention to your adorable sheltie

Sorry for the incredibly belated reply.

Mhmm, I can see what you mean and agree blurring the background a bit more would make my adorable subject pop even more.

Thank you so much the suggestion!

my first thought was "elderly sheltie" xD

She does look like a granny doesn't she?
She's 13 here, so about 91 in human years? Definitely a granny!

I highly recommend the breed!
Perfect temperament (of course, training/discipline is necessary with every breed)

I had one when I was little, named her Twinkie. Best pup I ever had. When she passed of a disease, dad got me a second one, Twinkie #2, and she was OBSESSED with those dog snacks, Snausages xD

She has the sweetest expression I've seen in a sheltie. She looks like she was an amazing dog. Such a beautiful photo - captures her well.

Thank you so much. She was definitely everything we could've asked for and more.
Shelties are my favourite breed because of how perfect her nature was. Now if only the breed could be rid of proneness to kidney disease, arthritis, etc...haha! That's what you get when you own a purebred i guess

I bet she was
It's not always just a purebred thing to have bad health, but poor breeding regulations and ethics have messed up some breeds pretty bad. Sadly, shelties are one of them Mine was taken early by kidney disease.

Very true! I'm sorry to hear about your sheltie
Have you watched the documentary called "Pedigree Dogs Exposed" as well as its followup documentary "PDE, three years on"?
It's available to watch on youtube.
A very eye-opening, disturbing film about how messed up the kennel club's breeding program is. x.x

Just watched it. Highly disturbing. However, there are many breeders of AKC dogs that are impeccable and do no such thing. I think it's going to take re-education of new upcoming breeders (most of them are an aging generation), along with personal choices of where you get your dog. Inbreeding has already done damage that cannot be fixed, but not participating in that practice of linebreeding and trying to outcross as much as possible are steps to correct the problem.
I'm hoping to get involved with the kennel clubs and educate breeders and managers as well. It's an uphill fight, but I think we can succeed if it's approached the right way.

Definitely! We can't generalize all breeders just because of a few bad ones.
Also very true in that while we can't undo past breeding, we can do many things to correct the "problems."
Whether or not all of the breeds we've "created" can be helped, only time will tell. Ie: Pugs and other brachycephalic dogs (and cats!) I can't help but feel that their deformation has gone past the point of help and the breed should just not exist at all.

You have my support! The more educated and rational people involved in breeding, the better! People need to evolve with the times. It's not about looks anymore, but rather health. Health is priority in my opinion.

Thank you very much for your encouragement! I have a feeling it's going to be a reaaally hard road; it's nice to get an esteem boost every once in a while
I think it's possible to save those breeds - but an open registry and introduction of different types of those dogs that are still within that breed is a must. A more or less open registry. I think also that dog shows should change to be more like a soundness check - conformation is an assessment of the breed's structure, health, and personality that allows it to perform it's particular function to the best of it's abilities. It should focus more on good build that facilitates health and working ability rather than stylization or flashy attitude.
But I think it's possible to salvage. There just needs to be a series of compromises, teamwork, and mutual understanding from both sides.
Let's see what we can do!

Isn't she?
She somehow retained her puppy face throughout her senior years

I'll bet she was a little lover, too... She has the same 'soft' look as my last Sheltie, Skipper. He didn't have a mean bone in his little body. Ornery, yes, mean, no.

Hah! I know what you mean. Like humans, i do believe dogs can have their grumpy days.
Tyra didn't have any grumpy days i don't believe, just "don't make me go walking days" due to arthritis hehe

That was Skipper. Toward the end, he had such a hard time walking...poor little guy. But he loved to go outside and wallow in the grass when it was warm...
