Description A bit of an update and redesign for the dual sided, diabolical decoration, Dybboxx. The design of the box itself hasn’t changed much, mostly just an updated color scheme. Most changes are to the entity within, which now has a more twisted, demonic appearance.

How a creature like Dybboxx came to be is unknown. Outsiders are vaguely familiar with the Carnicrate race, as they’re found scattered throughout the cosmos, though they are still quite rare. Dybboxx is a Chest Carnicrate, a type of Carnicrate that models it’s body after boxes and chests. Though, normally Chest Carnicrates do not possess a Hell beast within themselves. Most only have treasure of some kind, though there are very rare exceptions in which a Chest Carnicrate will become twisted by dark magick, used to contain souls or other mystical energies. The entity within Dybboxx however is unfamiliar, nobody is quite sure what it is. Some have speculated that it’s the soul of a criminal consumed by the box, others think it’s an actual demon. One gruesome theory?...this could be what happened to the Ectonurite DNA sample. There was no proper explanation for it’s strange absence from the Hexamatrix, but it’s possible that it was consumed and twisted by the Carnicrate to become the mysterious “Entity”

Dybboxx has the potential for very powerful dark magick. The box itself is nearly indestructible and immune to most forms of magick, as well as possessing a kind of empathic ability that manipulates the desires of the victim, urging them to approach and open the box. Once open, Dybboxx can utilize the full extent of his abilities, such as; telekinesis, mild telepathy, Dream Manipulation and invasion, possession, bodily control and limited shapeshifting. The entity within is somewhat skilled in mystic arts like necromancy, divining, runecasting and Auromancy, or the ability to enthrall and manipulate spirits. The entity possesses a characteristic that manifests as some kind of virus or curse, an aura that can cause severe nausea, blisters, burns, delusions and can even be fatal. This trait is dubbed the “Dybbuk Flu”

Dybboxx is a very resilient transformation in that next to nothing can harm the actual box itself. However, he can struggle to move around as his legs are very short and stumpy, though he can levitate and float around. The Entity is immune to physical damage due to its incorporeal nature, though it can be harmed by powerful enough magick, such as Egyptian magick or other ancient holy artifacts. Dybboxx’s ability to lure in prey is ineffective against creatures who are robotic or otherwise synthetic, as the victim must have emotions for Dybboxx to manipulate.

This transformation freaks Lex Hex out a bit. He can control it, but it can sometimes be a struggle. In theory, The Entity is controlled by the box, the box itself containing Lex’s consciousness. When utilizing the entity, Lex describes it as feeling like he’s in the passenger seat. He can limit the damage the entity does to an extent and can direct its abilities, but the Entity largely acts of its own accord.

I’ve never actually played DnD, though I was always fond of their creature designs. Dybboxx and Murphybed were both inspired by Mimics.

That part is unclear. It’s likely that the Carnicrate samples were always there but weren’t discovered until much later. Dybboxx was probably meant to be similar to Murphybed, a decoy/storage transformation but Dybboxx ended up being corrupted somehow, likely due to the influence of The Entity, whatever it is.

It could, but it would be next to impossible. Certain failsafes were put on it, any DNA collected from it degrades almost instantly. Any serious tampering can cause it to shut down entirely and even return to its inert orb state, where it’ll be all but useless.

Or at the very least, go into lockdown mode and become inaccessible until it feels the threat has passed. If it’s data crystal (source of DNA) is messed with, it can lock up into a useless crystal until it’s reset. It can self destruct too, but that’s an absolute last resort.

There aren’t many races that can use magick. The main ones are Humans, Yeti, the Kodanii, Denisovans and residents of Dyunakara, like Foo Dog and Knocturne’s species. There is a being similar to an Anodite but only one, called Signus X. It doesn’t have DNA so it couldn’t be a legit transformation, but it could come to play a role, possibly possessing Lex and giving him a major mystical boost in the future.

Do we ever find out exactly what the entity is? I’m getting the sense this is your take on Ghostfreak. The Ectonurites soul/being is directly coded into their DNA, and this entity being the result of this particular Ectonurite sample surviving within the Carnite? But regardless how is this entity so powerful?

The Entity remains a bit mysterious. It could be an Ectonurite, it may not be. It doesn’t register in any databases or any known source, there’s no real record of it at all. Whatever it is seems to be this powerful naturally, which makes it seem like it could be demonic in nature. Rather than just having ghost-like abilities, it summons legit paranormal power. It’s possible that it’s unique, like a poltergeist type entity that just got swept up by the box.
