Description

I've been thinking about the Skeksis from The Dark Crystal a lot, lately. Somehow, my thoughts wandered and the idea of using the Custom Lineage rules to recreate, essentially, the Chamberlain got stuck in my head. A warlock with the Friends cantrip, plus the Actor feat seems to be very appropriate, especially that through the Custom Lineage rules, you'll create a character with 18 CHA that way if you pick charisma as your bonus to attributes.

I couldn't quite figure out what kind of patron would be appropriate though. However, reading up on Skeksis showed me that Warhammer's Lords of Change (greater daemons of Tzeentch) were possibly derived from Skeksis, what with their fondess for manipulation and crystals and stuff. Which sounded like a fun idea for a patron. Or rather, patrons - a cabal of wizards too eager to steal magic from various sources and hoard it like a dragon, manipulating whole nations for petty reasons and profit until karma caught up with them and they got cursed / trapped themselves into a giant crystal. And now, they need puppets agents to accomplish their plots. Or something like that.

The concept behind the patron is manipulation of magic, stolen lore and such, so part of the pact features would grant access to the spell list of one other patron (up to second level, initially. At a later level you could gain up to fourth level if you stuck ot the same stolen pact magic, or expand your knowledge base by picking a second patron to steal from), manipulate fate once per day (one reroll of anything short of hidden DM rolls and death saving throws per long rest, simular to the lucky feat). As a final feature, I figured a temporary resistance to magic would make sense, but if you got targetted with a directed spell (not an AoE one like Fireball), you could redirect the spell back at the caster if you succeeded on the resistance roll.

As patrons, they would the type that like to decieve but, in turn, could be decieved themselves. In addition, other patrons might not particularily enjoy the fact that they grant stolen knowlege to those who have bound themselves to their pact. Might be a good RP oppertunity.
