Description Ugh... I liked "The Scorch Trials" movie, but the book is sooooo much better... and I missed this scene a lot (one of my favorite from the whole saga) :_(

Oh gosh I just saw the Scorch Trials and I had to restrain myself from squealing in the theatre it was so awesome
I did read the books, but to be honest this is the only series I actually like better as the movies. I read the books before the movies came out and didn't like them a lot (blasphemy I know ;-; ) but Scorch Trials is easily top five favorite films

I think it's because the movies make WAYYYY more sense if you take that route with the story.Β
Some choices in the books made me go ".....huh??" quite a bit. But I love both equally.
Basically half of the movie and half of the book mashed together would have been the perfect story.
BUT then we wouldn't have gotten two awesome versions of the same story. SO really it's a win-win.

Hmm I never thought about it that way, but it makes sense!
An awesome story x2Β Β

Haha, well, a totally respectable decision XD You're actually not the first person I know that likes the movies more. The first movie is one of my favorite ever but sadly I can't say the same for The Scorch Trials. It was my favorite book and I was soooo annoyed I only saw 2 or 3 scenes from the book on the big screen... sigh :_(

Ugh yeah trust me I understand that frustration x.x
I dunno I just spent most of the second book going "... really... no... what..." and then I got kinda lost (dystopian isn't really my thing but I tried xD)
so I felt like all the changes in both movies were good ones. Like I'm really glad they got rid of the telepathy between Thomas and Theresa because I thought that was kinda... idk, unnecessary? or how the metal in Scorch Trials was melting in the beginning- I was like oh dude no they'd be fried immediately. So its stuff like that which I'm glad they changed c:
but yeah I hated adaptations like Guardians of Ga'Hoole and Percy Jackson because... just... no

Getting rid of the telepathy was a nice change in my opinion as well. I mean, I like it in the books (and I think it's necessary, especially at the last book), but it would have been kinda weird to make it in the movies (it could even have looked ridiculous X_D). I also like how they changed the grievers and turned them into bigger and scarier creatures. I also like Jorge better in the movie (I know he was young and mexican, and instead we got GIANCARLO ESPOSITO, but C'MON GIANCARLO IS SO FRIGGIN' AWESOME and I love him in TST XD). And this Thomas at least does SOMETHING. In the second book he's just a little scared dog. So yeah, I agree that many changes were for good.
But the way they didn't respect the main plot essence in TST really pissed me off. The first movie is actually a good adaptation, they changed many things but the main stuff was still there. They even took some scenes from the book and portrayed them LITERALLY. Something that didn't happen in TST except the "you're not her" part. They could have done the same following the "trials", because in the movie there are no trials at all, it's just a simple escape from WICKED... and the Scorch being a trial is super important for the characters developement *sigh*
ALSO, WHY DID BRENDA HAVE TO GET INFECTED. Like... GOSH SHE'S MY FAVORITE CHARACTER (after Newt and Minho). AND WHY THEY TOOK MINHO. WES, DON'T YOU DARE TO TOUCH MY BABUUUUH T^T

Ugh, sorry for the rant. Still, a great movie, don't get me wrong. If I absolutely forget about the book, I can appreciate it as a single movie. A very good one, actually. But now that I'm re-reading the books I just wanna punch Wes on the face with is own hat and yell at him "YOU'RE THE SHUCKIEST SHUCKFACE SHUCK THERE EVER WAS".

Yeeep I liked the grievers! They were close to how I imagined but... ickier? I can't think of a better word xD
And yes I actually really liked the relationship between Jorge and Brenda in the movie. I totally thrive on strong platonic relationships xD like yessss love each other without loving each other friendship is forever
Yeah I noticed that the whole deal with getting into the scorch at all was totally different. I was like, but... they didn't escape, they were... forced... out...
Then again I think an escape scene acted as a reason for more action, and though I found it mildly irritating I couldn't stay mad because the escape scene was probably my favorite part ;-;
... Holy crowlies I haven't even thought of that but you're right. There were no trials. Unless that was all a setup which I highly doubt?? Β wow. That's probably why they had to take Minho though, just as a reason to keep Wicked in the game.
Pff I don't mind rants, I like hearing other opinions! I was so caught up with the movie excitement that I had barely thought about the book o.o
... seriously though I still can't wait for the next movie

When Thomas gets shot on The Scorch Trials and Brenda calls the bergs so WICKED can save him. She apologizes at the very last moment.

What??? Brenda called the Bergs? Really? I thought they came by themselves

Lehanan In reply to brechdaslicht [2015-10-15 09:21:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's been over a year since I read the books so I'm not sure if Brenda called them or they came by themselves, honestly x_x But regardless, this scene still happens in the book.

Yes, I remember now! Although I'm 99.9% sure the Bergs weren't called by Brenda
Another thing, did she have short hair in the book? I thought it was in a ponytail

Lehanan In reply to brechdaslicht [2015-12-21 20:07:29 +0000 UTC]

Yes, she had long black hair in a ponytail but since I read the second book after knowing the cast I couldn't imagine her otherwise.
