Description Scales! And horns! And a dragon lady! What's not to like? Another long term NPC who has become really important in some plots. Her name is Istixia, and she is a human bard gone disciple of the red dragon. I have exaggerated her draconic features because... why not?
I created her for my D&D adaptation of MtG's ravnica and she is an Izzet with a diva complex who is pretty more humble than she looks.

I reutilized this pose, lazy me!!! fav.me/db8m7ra

I geathered as much. I didn't play 3 or 3.5 D&D but I tried to understand the rules and concepts!

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-17 21:03:32 +0000 UTC]

I played mostly 3.5 but now I have adapted most characters to Pathfinder, which is to me an improved version.

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-17 22:16:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I heard that Pathfinder is an improvement!

You know I tried a bit of 3rd, but a character like Panartias would lose to much in conversion / translation. You see, he is a 9th level fighter (with swashbuckler kit), 13th level thief and 10th level wizard (of the red robes) under 2ed edition rules. (which dosent mean hes an 32 level character - rather around level 15 - but with a lot of skills and abilities at a high level)
After 3/3.5 rules that would translate to a level 19 character overall - which I could for example distribute like this F5/T7/W7 which would mean better saves and to hit bonusses for him, but fewer skills (and at a lower level)
Plus he would lose his uniqueness: changing professions was only possibel with a 15 in every main attribute of the first class and 17 or higher in every main attribute of the new class. And only humans could dual-class (or tripple-class as in his case) while other races could multy-class.

So I could either cheat and use the old rules under the new edition or not make the shift...

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 01:59:35 +0000 UTC]

I think it might work fine under 3.5/PF rules as an Eldritch Knight or even an Arcane Trickster. I love Arcane Tricksters in PF though I don't like multiclassing or prestige classes in PF a lot.
I'd might go for a Swashbuckler instead of a Fighter, ot even a Slayer might do a good work (it is an hybrid between a rogue and a ranger but I think it might be fitting). Instead of a vanilla wizard, a sorcerer or an arcanist sound like a neat option (sorcerers in PF are really cool to play).
Also, just playing a bard and tweaking it with a cool archetype to fit your concept and your options the best you could is an option. A swashbuckling magic user seems pretty bardish to me.

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 10:25:55 +0000 UTC]

I'd have to rearrange the statts then as well - and that would definitly change the character.
Believe me, I've pondered all the options you mentioned, but none really satisfies me.

Panartias had weapon-specialisations sword/rapir, dagger and boxing for once.
As a thief he had all skills apart from pick pockets (25%) and read languages (0%) maxed out (at 95%) - plus he had the best possible backstab (sneak attack) (5 x damage)
As a wizard he specialized in buffs and illusions (as well as cantrip and curse-spells)

"Multiclassing" was only for demihumans back in 1th and 2nd edition - what Panartias did was "Dualclassing" wich was much harder, because off the attribute requirement and because you coulden't /weren't allowed to use your class abilities (apart from the hitpoints that you keept) untill you had a higher level in the new class then in the old. A hard, stony road - but with its rewards!

Sorry for bragging about it.

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 10:59:47 +0000 UTC]

Oh, nope! I have a good time trying to figure out a way to get it done. I might revise the archetypes to find more options!
Rogues in PF have access to extra feats using their rogue tricks plus all characters having feats each 2 levels so it might be doable without Fighter levels

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 16:45:17 +0000 UTC]

Well at the moment Panartias uses only his fighter and wizard abilities - rogue is dormant since it is his higes class...
But Panartias is excactly the type of character they nerfed with the change from 2nd edition onward.
The fighter 5 (weaponmaster path for the swashbuckler manoevers), thief 7 (spellthief for additional casting levels) and wizard 7 (Transmuter or Illusionst) - everything with the entertainer background and variant human for extra feats is the clothest I get with 5th edition.

But the core problem is, that this means a 19th level character with 5/7/7 level abilities as opposed to a 15th level character with 9/13/10 level abilities. The abilities are cut in half! The character gets a bit tougher and more resillient in return.

Then Panartias is actually a dex-based fighter - but that concept wasen't as much supported in earlier editions as it is now with the finesse-weapons. Panartias starting statts were 16 str, 17 int, 7 wis, 17 dex, 14 con and 11 char. (Later additional stats like commliness 17, percepton 14 and luck 14 were roled/added) I had to distribute the stats like that, because changing the class 3 thimes was the core concept! It is even in his motto:

“Once, I was a fighter  -

to conquer  the heart of a beautiful  lady.

Then I became a thief -

to steal myself a kiss from her lips.

And finally, I became a mage -

to enchant her face with a smile.”

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 16:59:25 +0000 UTC]

Definitely it sounds like a complicated thing to adapt!
I think going for a prestige class that allows to progress in both spellcasting and martial prowess might be the best option, like the Arcane Trickster, but still, I can see how difficult it is.

I had a tough time like that converting Istixia, as she was a bard/disciple of the dragon in 3.5, and disciples of the dragon in Pathfinder are so different and less focused on spellcasting. And as she was mainly an spellcaster and obsessed with magic and dragons. I kept the class but part of the concept was eroded. Also, in 3.5 the changes were permanent, and her race changed to half dragon, which was important for the character as she was trying to attain some sort of metamorphosis and get rid of her humanity, partly as a reaction to a traumatic past. In Pathfinder, most changes are invoked at will and can be dispelled, which means that the "metamorphosis" isn't permanent.

So, despite most the characters that I adapted to PF were even better as I got to get them closer to the concept I had in mind with more personalization and more options, it harmed Istixia's concept quite a lot.

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 18:48:44 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you understand the problem!

Isn't it weird, that a good system fails to account for some special characters - like Istixia and Panartias?

That;s the main reason I sticked to 2nd edition: Because some dear characters were hard to translate / adapt.

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 18:55:59 +0000 UTC]

Fortunately for us, most characters adapter fabulously and were even improved (Sylvyana was much better as an urban druid, as she never had an animal companion and was mostly a spellcaster). But sadly some of the best were hard to adapt.

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 19:22:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think they made sure most characters would gain something rather than lose something.

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 19:33:32 +0000 UTC]

That was what made PF characters more customizable, which I liked. I didn't like prestige classes a lot precisely because the prerequisites often forced the characters to be too much alike.

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 19:45:19 +0000 UTC]

Well I did read the optimizers form on the Wizards of the Cost boad sometimes.
They tendet to pile one prestige class on top of another - which probably wasen't the intention of those classes...

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 19:51:42 +0000 UTC]

I always liked my characters to be functional but if they don't support the character concept, I don't even think of it. You can make your character work fine without optimizing irrationally and against the backstory.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 20:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Same for me! A too optimized character isen't fun to play for me; a charcter is defined by its weaknesses as much as by his strength.

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 20:07:52 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, totally! If you read my Reign of Winter story you'll see how Kileanna seems to end always getting the worst part in combats xD (and she had a pretty strong build though)
She also rebelled against me as the story went by, refusing to learn or cast some powerful spells because she hated them! (She learned cloudkill, used it twice, and then decided it was evil and never prepared it again)
She also took a lot of healing options because she became terrified of her group dying after someone died and she couldn't heal her!

Panartias In reply to LeilaAscariz [2017-12-18 20:47:33 +0000 UTC]

For Panartias, I took a few extra weaknesses.

For example he hates disgusting things (which a lot of spell components are). So he missed a few good spells like spiderclimb (living spider and tar), fireball (bat guano), and wizard eye (eye of a hawk, eagle or rock).

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LeilaAscariz In reply to Panartias [2017-12-18 23:01:11 +0000 UTC]

He hates disgusting things! Amusing phrasing. But not as much considering that I love disgusting things xD

Kileanna is able to vomit swarms of insects, so when you can do that, nothing seems too disgusting.

I have a wizard who is utterly afraid of running water. And my GM loves to take her into the sea xD

...Panartias is more of a delicate flower when it comes to that.

No me suele gustar mucho los sombreados con el mismo color, pero manejas muy bien las pinturillas, el dibujo queda variado en matices, simplemente funciona muy bien.
Los volúmenes formas y texturas...

The red scales, i.e. has 2 shades of red (I usually go for 3-4 different hues for the same thing, but this time I only used base+contrast)
