Description This is something I found on an old fence. It looks like some kind of moss, but it is rigid. I would expect to find something like that in the sea, not on the old rusty fence behind the barn

It's a lichen. I can't tell you what kind, there's an awfull lot of'em and I'm not very smart about them, but they are one of my favorite subjects to photo.

This is definitely a lichen - a fungus that has a green alga or a cyanobacterium as endosymbiont.

Thanks for info, it is always nice to learn something new This is not my strong area We have them all over the metal fences behind the house

Thank you And it was taken (as most of my photos) while I was doing my chores with my 2,5 yo son
I love looking around me and find beautiful and unusual things in ordinary enviroment

It's probably some kind of lichen, which is a fungus. I agree, it does look totally out of this world!
