Description
This is something I found on an old fence. It looks like some kind of moss, but it is rigid. I would expect to find something like that in the sea, not on the old rusty fence behind the barn

It's a lichen. I can't tell you what kind, there's an awfull lot of'em and I'm not very smart about them, but they are one of my favorite subjects to photo.

This is definitely a lichen - a fungus that has a green alga or a cyanobacterium as endosymbiont.

It's probably some kind of lichen, which is a fungus. I agree, it does look totally out of this world!
