It's seems tradition now that I start my year off with a sculpture of my favorite Pokemon.
This little Growlithe was a commission based off of this adorable TCG card art: cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/4/4…
I was ecstatic to get a chance to sculpt this, as that is one of my all time favorite Growlithe cards. The pose was a bit more difficult than I had expected, as the card art left a lot of guess work and has some odd anatomy, but I am pretty darn pleased with how he came out. I was incredibly sad to have to give him up, but I'm sure he will be well loved.
Growlithe measures about 3.25in tall. He was sculpted from Super Sculpey/Sculpey Firm over a wire and foil armature, painted with acrylic paints, and sealed with a matte finish.

Thanks so much! The best advice I can give is to just keep practicing! Try new things, push out of your comfort zone, and most importantly, sculpt as often as you can!

It's one thing to sculpt a Pokémon and get it to look correct. It's another thing to pose it, giving it life and making it super adorable! Well done!

this is lovely!! how did you get it so smooth? just alot of sanding? I try to sand but its not this smooth!

Thank you so much! Yep, it's mostly just tons of sanding. It takes forever to get it smooth, but it really does make a difference I think.

Aww, gosh, thank you! ^^ The sealant I used on the guy is called Testor's Dullcote. It comes in a small spray can. I usually get it at my local hobby shop, but sometimes craft stores like Michael's or Jo'Ann's carry it as well.
