Okay so I'll add the short version of this story because why not:
When she was twelve years old Kiteki was placed on a team under the supervision of Shizue Kaiu along with Nariyuki Kohara and Hikyoku Uchu, her best friend who Kiteki affectionately called "Kyoku." When she was 17 years old, Kiteki and Hikyoku were ambushed by a hidden Kirigakure shinobi. During the battle while the shinobi went to land a blow on Kiteki, Hikyoku, having much quicker reflexes and agility than the young Hizara, leaped in front of her to protect Kiteki from a fatal blow. First unsure of what just happened and in a confused state Kiteki asked her long time friend what just happened and what was wrong once she saw Hikyoku trembling and when she got her reply of a bloodied smile and tears along with a "Find someone able to make you smile even on these rainy, gloomy days, Kiki-chan." tears began to fill her eyes. Not long after, Kiteki held tightly onto Hikyoku's body applying pressure onto her wound, her other teammate and Sensei came to their rescue running off their attacker.. unfortunately it was much too late for the optimistic blue-haired kunoichi who always found the secret to make Kiteki smile come to light.
Kiteki figured out during this time that she wasn't, perhaps, ever truly meant to be a shinobi after-all, in addition to already long-existing call of wanting to be a full-time inventor and engineer. After Hikyoku's death, Kiteki isn't able to get past it for years and becomes less easy to enchant and sweep off her feet and puts a small wall between herself and strangers afraid if she grows too close she will loose them. This fear is conquered once she meets a Konoha shinobi who works part time as a barista named Susumu Ochi, who she eventually grows to be very close to and later becomes her husband and father to her children.
