Description tired of making stuff up on each panel, I'm making a catalogue of scifi guns for more consistency. these are for the new and improved Ultimate Shield.

candy colors to suggest lightweight materials to offset the size and bulk of the guns.

If I were asked to design battle space ships, they'd prolly look just like these guns.

edit: category. I didn't know people pay attention to the category.

God they are soooo COOOOOOOL. ? Are they are all ballistic or there are some laser/ plasma based guns. I can tell that the first on the left side it is a railgun sniper rifle, and the #3 on the same side is also a railgun for the general grunt soldier. ? I am right.

Marvel sure is loose about what kind or armory S.H.I.E.L.D and Cable & co etc. use. If all the junk from the comicbooks was to be collected on a single book I am sure it'd be 3000 pages of thumbnails 400 x 400 dots, 88% of it Rob Liefelds pen alone as his guns seemed to change shape in middle action and there were a lot of them.

I'm in love with like all these guns

Each menacingly badass with each angle the shape. I'm no expert on guns (unlike my father) but these look pretty practical if you ask me. Like you'd expect to see marines in the future firing these off.

Pretty neat guns! I've never been much of a technical artist, so weapons isn't exactly my area of expertise, but I can definitely see these are great designs.

Sempai-Tem [2010-02-10 09:45:01 +0000 UTC]

As pointed out you have all these cool designs but one trick you missed is the Bullpup design. It's where the magazine and the firing mechanism is behind the trigger action.

What that does is a couple things. It makes the gun's recoil way more manageable, making it possible to handle one handed even nearly assault rifle sized weapons. Also because the firing mechanism is further back it allows for the same length gun to have a longer barrel making it more accurate. For instance that First rifle top left if it were three feet long the barrel length might be about a foot and a half, same rifle in a bullpup configuration the barrel has more length making the barrel maybe 2 feet long. Another advantage of having that internal barrel length is you could have a shorter weapon which would make it ideal for close quarters combat such as room to room engagements. Like Say a SWAT team clearing a house or a commando unit doing a covert op. Or because you are going with a sci-fi theme which I love, the interior of a spaceship. This all assumes these a bullet firing weapons if they are lazers then ummm nevermind.

Valid point, for futuristic bullpup guns you could google: FN P90 (the gun from goldeneye 64) Now that's OLD SKOOOL!!

Sempai-Tem In reply to K00MER [2010-02-12 04:02:06 +0000 UTC]

Not actually a bullpup design the mag is on top... not sure if there is a separate term for it. The P90 for alot of people think of it as the gun of choice for SG-1 The Stargate series.

Theus-Smythe In reply to Sempai-Tem [2010-02-10 13:35:55 +0000 UTC]

Just a shoot in; from an artistic standpoint, the Bullpup design is rather ugly to use a relative term. I have yet to see a good-looking Bullpup Assault Rifle, for instance. So of course, depending on what route you are going for, one should also consider the artistic appeal. Perfectly aware of the benefits a Bullpup design does to functionality though. Just getting the feeling designers in general hold the Bullpup too high above more traditional designs. I vote for a balance.

Sempai-Tem In reply to Theus-Smythe [2010-02-11 02:16:03 +0000 UTC]

On seeing your reply: I did a little digging.
Tavor Assault Rifle looks pretty sweet [link]
The Kel-Tec also has a clean look about it. [link]
Tell me this one doesn't look like a space gun [link]

There were a bunch more but I figure I'd just throw three.

On the other side of the coin here is a page where a guy with some practical know how goes against the bullpup design makes for good reading just to get an insiders POV. [link] One thing that he does say is Bullpups would be so much better if we were talking about caseless ammo then the advantages would out strip his reasons as to why they are over rated. WHICH is exactly the idea of futuristic guns. We will suppose the the ammo in these designs are a little more advanced then what you can get at your local k-mart.

In the end of saying you are about balance, I agree with you. I merely said the Bullpup design was over looked. Not that it should replace all the great designs in this deviation. I think the future would have more and more options on designs. Think that in the future it might be possible to goggle the specs of a rifle and then auto-lathe the weapon at a store or your garage.

Theus-Smythe In reply to Sempai-Tem [2010-02-11 02:29:32 +0000 UTC]

The Kel-Tec isn't too bad, indeed, and the last is definitely sci-fi. Though I still prefer the more traditional designs.

Aye, I agree that the Bullpups are better, especially in a futuristic standpoint, but they hardly look as good. Then again that probably derives from the fact I'm used to traditional designs.

Agree completely with that last paragraph.

Sempai-Tem In reply to Theus-Smythe [2010-02-11 09:58:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I gotcha on that. See for me the first time I noticed a bullpup design was in a movie. Harley Davison and the Marlboro Man, the bad guys were in long black coats and were rocking the ster augs which still to this day still look like they from the future.

Nice talking to you.

good points Jack and Sempai-Tem. At least I now know now the right term, Bullpup.

I was gonna do a few of those like the Steyr and the FNs but I'm more familiar with the conventional types so I went with those first.

These weapons use assorted ammos so some of them have battery packs on the butt.

they're only gonna appear briefly for 2 issues so not much thought went into them. It's a good exercise tho and makes me more familiar with weapon designs.

Sempai-Tem In reply to leinilyu [2010-02-11 02:23:27 +0000 UTC]

Welcome on the term.

The one thing that would make them better is is the ammo was more advanced then what's available today. As stated here. [link]

Either way the designs you did put up were smoking hot. I even like the fact you put color into the weapons. Like certain resins and polymers would have different colors let's make belive the guns are made of advanced materials it is sci-fi. So dream on and dream big.

I-am-Samurai-Jack [2010-02-10 05:46:01 +0000 UTC]

all these guns look great, but aren't very futuristic.

what i mean is, the design of having the magazine in front of the the trigger is old and obsolete.

the Isreali military has come up with the design of having the entire firing mechanism inside the shoulder rest.

this means; shorter and lighter gun with the same punch, with more accuracy since the gun's centre of mass is closer to the soldiers body.

[link]

just an idea for future designs

I'm totally doing the same thing. Designing a loada sci-fi guns so I don't have to make em up on the spot in a comic.

My guns and spaceships also look the same.
