Not sure what you mean? As in is this my take on the characters?Β

Best crossover! And I love your version of Lilo! Talk about interesting characters, she was one of few animated girls I related to A LOT!

I'd love to see more cartoons about Lilo if they were handled properly and not what Disney did when they tried to turn it into Pokemon. Though Stick Has A Glitch was surprisingly good for a direct-to-video sequel thingy.

Haha - thanks buddy!!Β

I so agree - she was such a little spunk ^_^ I saw the episodal show and didn't mind it tooΒ
much - even if it was a little 'Pokemon' - I haven't seen Stitch has a Glitch though - but judgingΒ
by your comment it's worth checking out? Β

To be fair I probably get more judgemental about plots of cartoons as I grow older - preteen-me would hate now-me. But yeah, I've seen Stitch has a Glitch a few years ago but it seemed really good back then - not as solid as the original movie but the plot wasn't annoying or forced and nothing was glaringly off-model, it was nice, I guess it's all we can ask for with sequels.

I like how Pixar manages to make sequels feel like proper stories because really any story with some characters surviving to the end has something happening next so I always felt confused about why so many sequels feel so forced. But to be fair Pixar tends to serialize the stories I like less - I don't expect Up or Ratatouille will ever get a sequel or a prequel and I never cared much for Cars and I already lost count of Toy Story specials.

haha - I'm the same - I definitely was a much more easy going kid Β

Yeah, I'm perplexed by that too - I think part of the fun and brilliance ofΒ
the first movie is perhaps discovering the character and their quirks -Β
I think when the sheen of that wears of or you've seen them transform once
it's hard to invest in them as much the second time round... So the storyΒ
has to really hold up which is rare these days...Β

I liked the Toy story spequals though - it may be the best trilogy I know of...Β

That's a good point - most animated films are built around one big life-changing event so it's harder to continue those stories compared to something really slice-of-life-ish. But then I also don't like sitcoms where characters are stuck in their roles for seasons and don't get to grow at all.

I meant Halloween and Christmas tv specials (which I didn't watch) but I like Toy Story 2. Though I irrationally dislike the prequel - I guess it's more personal than anything... I watched it at a very wrong time, when my life was going backwards rather than any sort of forward and I really needed something both uplifting and not too cheery (it's a big thing to ask for, I know, but British drama does that for me now). So I came home after watching the prequel in a cinema, thought about Andy going to college and literally broke down crying in a sort of hopeless depressed way. :/ I wouldn't do it now but that's the main feeling I got from that movie.

I did enjoy Monsters University but stories about A Guy Getting His Dream Job start rubbing me the wrong way because I'm beginning to realise how rarely it happens in life and I'm not sure if that constant "PREPARE FOR AWESOMENESS!!" message is that good for children... I guess I like more mundane stories now.

Me too - I think that's why I'm not a fan of Seinfield - well not as much as some - It was hard to support characters who refused to at least attempt to learn from their mistakes...Β

Did they do halloween and christmas specials of Toy Story or am I getting confused again? The last Toy Story I was an emotional wreck - seriously - as they edged towards that fire pit I literally lost my shit - my whole body was heaving - incredibly embarrassing...Β

Monsters university wasn't as bad as I thought it would be - personally I kinda thought a sequel would be better than a prequel - I liked the idea that the monsters were struggling and they had to go find boo to get her help... mostly because I wanted to see Boo grown up ^_^

I'm pretty sure they did - I saw some previews of tv specials back when I used tumblr and followed a bunch of Pixar-themed blogs.

Yeah, I dunno, there's a bunch of things that I wish were different about Monsters U but it wasn't too bad. I would like to see older Boo too but I dunno, I think they'd play it safe. I don't even remember which was the last animated film I saw in cinema (it could have been Paranorman), I don't even look forward to anything animated except for Shaun The Sheep the movie these days...

hmm - interesting - will have to see if it's buried on youtube somewhere Β

Really? I always try to see animated movies in the cinema - even just to support
the medium - I drew the line at cars 2 - I'm bummed I missed box trolls... Although
it might still be in selected cinemas...Β

Oly-RRR In reply to Lelpel [2015-02-08 20:16:42 +0000 UTC]

I used to do it to support the medium but the thing that changed my mind was seeing Doctor Who Anniversary special in the cinema - it was such a special experience and it couldn't compare to the usual feeling of mild disappointment I got after watching animated movies and I guess I just don't feel that I have enough money to support writing I don't enjoy much anymore, especially since it's a successful industry and not some sort of charity. I'll keep watching Aardman films in cinemas since I actually enjoy their stories and they always fail in the US when it comes to box office but I'm sure Disney will somehow struggle on without me.

I keep hoping for more varied stories but animation is becoming more and more about sameface princesses and I realise that me not buying a cinema ticket is not going to affect much but it's just not something I want to support anymore. I'd like to support the BBC more but it's kind of tricky when not living in the UK.

I wish I've seen Box Trolls but I REALLY liked Paranorman and didn't like Coraline much so I don't have any kind of well-formed opinion on Laika yet.

Fair enough - especially considering how expensive movies are these days - I think it's almost 25 or more now to see a movie in the larger cinemas... kinda crazy :/Β

I think you definitely vote with (or without) your dollars - even just one person - if you don't want to support something don't pay It does make a difference! I love the BBC too - I think they get plenty of support though - It's the sort of ingrained cultural institution in the UK that's not going anywhere - Even the shows on it always get a decent chance (from what I can see anyway)Β

I think Box trolls would be good - it got great reviews as far as I could tell Β

Oly-RRR In reply to Lelpel [2015-02-10 23:52:25 +0000 UTC]

The BBC is not struggling with things like Doctor Who and they have enough money to do smaller good shows but they also cancel shows a lot (and are trying to axe BBC3 right now which made a lot of low-key but brilliant shows like In The Flesh, which also got cancelled as a result of stuff going on with BBC3) and there isn't that much merchandise... I'd love to own a boxset of Life on Mars and some merchandise if I could buy it locally (insert a separate rant about Russian postal service here)... Not to mention all the radio plays that don't get released in any form. I'd love to just pay the subscription fee but right now there is no legal way for me to get some BBC programs and existing legal ways cost a lot (like ordering dvds on Amazon and never knowing if they'll arrive at all). :/

A friend of mine didn't like Box Trolls so that makes me doubtful though our tastes are overlapping but not the same so idk, I might still like it! I certainly liked the trailer.

Definitely, I had no idea they cancelled shows so regularly!Β
I totally agree about the radio plays - I would also love to be able
to get my hands on Paley centre videos... ~sigh~Β

Australia is the same with postal and ordering - SO expensive andΒ
it takes forever to get here :/Β

Let me know if you end up seeing/liking Box Trolls!Β
