disclaimer - the following fic focuses entirely on my headcanon that Steve's petname for Tony is "Ducky". if you don't know what I'm talking about, I recommend to read first some other Ducky stories in my gallery ;D

"Tony.. Tony! TONY!!"

Tony flinched, as Steve's voice just got into him. He turned around from the holographic screen to face his husband who was holding their 6 month old son, who was letting out piercing cries.

"He won't stop crying," Steve whined with a pained expression, rocking the baby in his arms.
"I can hear," Tony grimaced, coming closer. "Did you check his diaper?"
"Dry, and JARVIS did a health check, he is fine. And he is not hungry. I don't know what to do," Steve bit his lip, looking with concern at the small bundle in his hands.

"Give me him," Tony took the baby from Steve, holding his son close. "Hey, it's ok, buddy, don't cry.." he tried soothing, gently patting Peter's back, but he continued to wail.
"I think he had a nightmare.." Steve said sadly.
"Did you? Were there bad guys after you? It's ok, Iron Man will protect you, kid," Tony cooed further, but Peter just continued crying.

"Tony.." Steve started and Tony lifted his head up, eyeing the soldier with a stern look.
"No."
"But you know it always helps him!"
"No," Tony said firmer. He won't do it again. "We just need to find another way," he looked around and took Peter's pacifier from the table and put it into baby's open mouth. Both men looked in anticipation as the baby started to suck on the pacifier, calming down.

"See? There was no need to.. GAH!" Tony yelped, as Peter spit out the pacifier, and Tony got hit in his temple. As soon as the pacifier left Peter's mouth, he started crying all over again. "You little.." Tony hissed, and Steve interrupted him quickly.

"Tony.." soldier practically begged. Tony looked at his husband. With a heavy sigh he gave the whimpering bundle back to him.

"Last time," genius grumbled, taking a few steps back. "Hey Pete! Pete! Look at Dada!" he called cheerfully and Peter took few shaky breaths, but looked at Tony.

Tony smiled. He pushed his lips together, something between a pout and pucker and bent in knees a little. "Quack!" he squawked, flapping his arms. "Quack! Quack!" he squawked a few more times, walking in a circle, flapping his arms after every "quack".

It didn't take long when he heard Peter's happy giggling and when he looked back at the kid, he was reaching his hands and kicking his legs as trying to get to Tony. Steve put Peter down on the floor and the toddler started crawling in Tony's direction, trying to get to the "duck".

Tony squawked some more and when Peter was close enough, he quickly lifted him in his arms, smothering with gentle pecks Peter's chubby cheeks, making the baby giggle delightedly.

Steve kept smiling and as Tony wrapped the baby in his arms, he came closer and kissed his husband's cheek lovingly. "You're the best dad, you know that?" he smiled. Tony just muttered something that sounded like "shut up." Steve smiled brighter and kissed him again, taking the baby. "Back to bed, Petey. Say goodbye to the Ducky," he smiled and Peter giggled, kicking his legs. Tony smiled back, and waved, making one more time a duck face, making Peter gurgle amused.

Steve turned around walking out of the room. "I'm not doing that again!" he heard Tony's voice on his way out. Steve just smirked.

"Papa?"

Steve was lying in bed, reading a book when he saw his 3 year old son standing in the threshold, wearing pj, holding a plushie in his hand.

"Pete? What's wrong?" Steve asked puzzled. It was late. Why the kid was not sleeping yet? "Come here," Steve said gently, lifting the covers up. Peter quickly went to him, snuggling into Steve's chest, sobbing gently as Steve wrapped his arms around his son's small frame. "What is it?"

Peter shook his head, not wanting to tell.

"Did you have a nightmare?" Steve frowned.

Peter shook his head again.

"So you just can't sleep?"

Peter nodded. Steve sighed. He was afraid that this will happen. Tony was away on a business trip and each time one of them was away, their son had troubles sleeping.

"Peter.. Daddy will be back in a couple of days, ok? We just need to wait for him," he said softly, carding his hand through Peter's brown locks. Peter mumbled something quietly. "I know.. I want him to come back too," he reassured his son gently. He looked down at the toy Peter was squeezing under his arm. It was a plush duck Tony bought one day for him at the park during a walk. Steve kept looking for a moment at the duck, then his eyes darted to the closet. He had an idea.

The days passed and when Tony showed back on their floor in the middle of the night, he wasn't that surprised to find Steve sleeping with Peter in their bed, even though they made a promise to not let him do that anymore, as it was high time to teach the kid to sleep on his own. He gently smiled at the scene in front of him, when something caught his eyes. He looked closer and spotted that between Steve's and Peter's body was a toy - a plush duck, clad in a knitted red and yellow sweater, which pattern looked suspiciously similar to his Iron Man suit.

Peter huffed as he was digging in a closet with stuff from his childhood. That was the most stupid school assignment ever. Whatever idiot thought that sharing baby photos during Home Economic's class was a good idea, should check their head. It was stupid and humiliating and..

He found the box signed "Baby Peter's stuff". He opened the box, eyeing briefly the contents. He never looked through them. Never had a reason to. But now he took out the album, planning to take out every single embarrassing photo that could be inside before he would take it to school.

While he was looking through the photos he noticed something interesting. Yes, he expected that Iron Man and Captain America's merchandise would appear rather often, having in mind who his Dads were, but he certainly didn't expect to see recurring duck's every few photos. Like him sleeping in rompers with duckies all over it. Tony wearing a tie with a duck pattern. Peter holding a plush duck.

Peter frowned. Did he really liked ducks so much?

But further he was looking through the album it became clearer. He noticed that pictures were signed by his pop's neat handwriting. "Stark-Roger's Duckling" said under one of the pictures of Peter in his crib. "Ducky and Duckling" another sign under the picture of Tony sleeping on the couch, baby Peter propped on his stomach, while one of Tony's hand was placed on his back, making sure that the baby won't fall.

Oh, it was too good.

But when Peter found a plush duck wearing an Iron Man suit sweater it was definitely too good.

He found a way to make his presentation much more interesting.

The next morning he was getting ready to go to school. He entered the kitchen, snatching a toast, while Steve was preparing breakfast for a very sleepy Tony at the kitchen table.

"Hi Pete, found everything you need for your presentation?" Steve chirped happily, frying some eggs for breakfast. Tony waved his hand at his son, sipping coffee, not able to talk yet.

"Yeah, I think I'm ready," Peter answered, biting the toast. "Gotta go. Bye pops! Bye Ducky!"

Steve stopped dumbfounded, looking after their son going out from the kitchen, while Tony choked on the coffee, spilling it all over.

"Did he just.. You were supposed to throw that stuff away!!" he cried at Steve. "Peter, get back here!!" he hollered the next second, suddenly awake, running after the teenager.

Steve now looked after Tony, hearing some raised voices from the living room, some laughter. But he just went back to his task, now flipping the eggs in the pan.

His Ducky was so dramatic sometimes.
