Description

Since Tony was a kid, Captain America have been present in his life.

He had grew up hearing stories about him, told by his dad every night before bedtime. Howard was gesticulating vividly, eyes sparkling as he was telling tales of the brave soldier.

Hero.

National Icon.

And Tony loved Steve, in this sincere, sweet way kids are only capable of.

When Tony was growing up the bedtime stories had stopped.

Now, Tony was running through the corridors, swinging Captain's America shield, laughing happily as Howard was running after him, pretending to be Red Skull.

When he was a teen, all Captain America merchandise was pushed into the far corner of his room.

He hated Captain America.

He hated the disapproving looks his dad always gave him each time Tony messed up something.

He hated the father-to-son talks Howard gave him, each time pinpointing Captain America as a role model.

Tony didn't understand how come his dad had all this time to talk about some fallen hero, instead of talking about what was bothering his own son.

And Tony had problems.

When he was sent to MIT he forgot all about Captain America, studying and partying to his heart's content.

When he took over Stark Industries, Captain America remained forgotten.

After the events in Afghanistan, he had to became a hero on his own.

He had no time to think about Captain America anymore. He found a prototype of Captain America's shield in the box that belonged to his dad, but he just shrugged it off.

Unnecessary distraction.

Captain America came back to his life with full force when one evening agent Coulson came to his tower, giving him a file about Avengers Initiative.

They found him.

He's alive.

Son of a bitch.

So when they met for the first time, Tony didn't want to listen to him.

What did he know?

He was stuck in ice for 70 years.

Capsicle. He loved the irritated look Steve gave him at this nickname.

He hated the look Steve gave him, while telling him that he is not able to make sacrifices.

He hated the poor attempt at consoling him after Coulson's death.

We are not soldiers.

But when they were fighting and Tony pointed his repulsors at Steve, Steve understood and reflected the beam with his shield, killing aliens in one go.

Maybe they could work together.

When he was woken up by Hulk's roar, the first thing he saw was Steve and the relief on his face.

When they all went to eat after the battle, and Tony was slowly chewing on his food, he was glancing at Steve from time to time.

He looked bored. But Tony knew that he was confused. It must have been hard for him.

All alone.

When he got back to what was left of Stark Tower, when Pepper ran into his arms, kissing all over Tony's face, tears streaming down her cheeks, Tony was smiling, kissing back.

He loved Pepper.

He really did.

But when he decided to turn the Stark Tower into the Avengers Tower, the first floor he started to design was Steve's floor.

Because maybe..

After all this years..
