So, I've been thinking of an image for my vectortea company for quite some time.I've really been going over it in my head for the past few months, and finally today I've got it right.
I want to thank $liquisoft twice for his help with my work. He helped me with some brainstorming a while back that got me started, as well, he provided the incredibly useful Fonce Sans (go check it out) that I used for the caption fonts.
The goal of this card was to have it stand out (especially in a stack of ordinary cards), but still be CHEAP to make. Nothing exceedingly special. It's clean, legible, and now people can contact me.
I should have some by the end of next week.

Yeah, I used these cards for a couple of years and always got call backs. I literally got a call back a month ago from a card that someone found in Kansas (I used these cards in Texas a long time ago). I had to break the news that I'm in the Navy now, and the guy seemed kind of sad I couldn't help him. Hah.
That's actually a tea leaf, but I agree, they are pretty similar. And yes, all these submissions are old submissions. I haven't made art in years. Just kind of moved on from it.

Oh wow. That is quite a story, word of mouth really travels. That's quite a reputation, to have people still calling from such a long time ago.

Oops! sorry, my bad. I never really saw a tea leaf hah so I really have no idea what it looks like. Quick google search has shown me though. Either way, it really stands out. I have something for clean vectors and type, it just enhances the feel. I see all these fancy 3D logos, and for some reason I always still love the simplistic, clean vectors.

I am a fan of simple things. I like everything to be clean and direct. Just don't have time for the fancy stuff. I used to have a portfolio website that matched my business card, but that's gone now and all I have is a blog at claychastain.com.

Hah my story? not too interesting. Drew all in high school, graduated, went to college for design, graduating in 4 months... yep. Nothing really at all that epic.

Everyone has a story! I'm sure that there's more you're telling! I still crack up just remembering all the stupid stuff we used to do in high school and college. Those little experiences have made me who I am.

Hah I feel the same way! I love wordpress. I am so glad I transferred over to it.
I feel like college kind of... in many ways uninspired me from my major, design. I feel I had more bad memories than good for the most part. Here I am graduating soon, and when I think back, what did I accomplish... I can't really think of anything. If anything I have become bolder, more head strong, a leader... I don't take crap from people. I now have a habit of telling people off... I am honest to a fault. Those things aren't exactly the most positive things out there. :/

Yeah, college left me with a bitter taste in my mouth for design. My instructors had a huge disconnect from what actually was a marketable design, and instead seemed more like college students turned instructors without much real world experience.
I think college is more of a learning experience -- you learn what you want out of what you make, and then firms and clients are a constant battle to put your own dream into reality while catering to their requests at the same time. It's a balancing act!

I feel so limited and uninspired. As in, it has to be a certain way. I get sick of so many students stealing designs and work, never getting punished. Heck, they get rewarded with jobs for stealing work, and then the clients have to suffer lawsuits because the kids just don't care.
I am having the hardest time finding work, even an internship. For 4 years, I have been battling searching and struggling. I'm in the middle of a city, with probably about 4 opportunities; meanwhile there's 50 students trying to get in. I am hoping that I can get something, because I would hate to have to just take more classes in the place of an experience like that.

I use both. As much as I don't like facebook, I have to use it day to day to get in contact with everybody, including my professors. It's pretty sad when you can reach them on FB but not through email HAHAH.

Clay, your leaf is at a different angle and a bit squashed on the back compared to the front?
Try and keep your logo standard. We get 150+ page styleguides from companies stating this XD so it was the first thing i noticed

It's nice, but I really think you could work on the typography much more. is that helvetica as the logotype?
it's a bit too plain as if it was "just typed" without further crafting.
the leaf logogram doesnt match too much with the font.
and also the font used as the address type looks a bit too messy

The purpose of this card was to be as simple and bold as possible. I used Helvetica for the logotype, but then used Fonce Sans for all other text.
I've had an enormous amount of positive feedback in the cards already, and I've been seeing a huge number of call backs. I'm taking this as an indication that the design is working as intended.

Would look wonderful if you could get spot UV on the leaf, and probably for "Vectortea" as well, on the back.

A varnished/laminated coating on specified "spots", seen most on matte printing. However I generally think it looks best on art paper, the texture contrast is quite outstanding.
Just makes more of a statement, I think.
And quite inexpensive, should you use, say, print100.com.
