personal piece for november
after my annual trip to Korea i felt like designing something inspired by a mix of Korean tradition, recent Kpop fashion and Kmmorpg style
this one was definitely fun to work on^^

So I only logged in after years just to make this comment because I am confused as to what you mean by "Korean tradition". I am struggling to find many traditional Korean themes in this picture, except maybe the Hanok house in the background. What stands out to me the most is the Japanese Obi-style belt which is not a part of any korean garb be it modern or traditional and I am sure many koreans would be offended by this misapropriation. Other than that, this art piece is wonderful and I am truly delighted by it.

hi, thanks for coming to discuss. i agree the belt could be seen as obi-like though that wasn't exactly my focus (i just wanted the middle to be more 'busy'). i also agree that the traditional aspects are on the subtle side but as i did have them in mind working on this one i decided to write what i wrote. attached you can see a number of 노리개/Norigae - widely used string ornaments (mainly, but not only, in women's Hanbok) that i'm a fan of, a 곡옥/Gogok - jade stone (even though used in other countries as well - named Magatama in Japan - it reminds me mainly of the ancient crowns found in the tombs of the 신라/Silla kingdom), the belt fabric uses a rather popular cloud pattern, the metal buckles are stylized to look a bit like those too. the sword, while stylized and reworked, is based on the ones i remember from my classes (you could argue it's based on a Katana but again, neighbouring countries often influence each other and go for a somewhat similar style). i am aware that many of those elements could make people think of other asian countries, Japan in particular, but as a Korean studies graduate, they click as Korean to me. none of the Korean people that have seen this work seemed in any way offended (including the friend that helped me name the character) so i certainly hope that isn't the case, as it wasn't in any way my intention. i'm happy you enjoy this one regardless

This is so cool, wow.  My favorite thing is the good drawing that you didn't ruin as you painted it... your color choices are also magnificent.
