Role: Light Assault Tank

Design: The Type 42 CR/Ocelot is a light combat tank, originally designed for reconaissance. Midway through development it was decided to instead greenlight the AV-10 project for a ten ton amphibious recon tank, and the Ocelot was remodelled into a lightweight, inexpensive combat tank. Its most notable feature is its oscillating ball turret, which reduces weight while allowing it to be equipped with a large 80mm rocketgun cannon.

The vehicle otherwise has rounded cold-rolled cobalt steel armor, insufficient against rockets or anti tank shells but providing good protection against anti-tank rifles and small arms. It conspicuously lacks a machine gun, as the small crew and turret do not have room for a machine gunner, instead forcing it to rely on the 80mm rocketgun for defense against infantry. The rocketgun fires relatively low velocity high explosive or high explosive anti-tank shells, being effective against fairly heavy armor at moderate ranges.

History: The Ocelot was originally designed as a reconaissance tank, before being replaced in that role by the still in development AV-10 Project, which was to be a more mobile amphibious recon vehicle. The Ocelot was then uparmored and redesigned for a combat role, and became the most produced Cytaari tank. Variations on its chassis including the Ocelot B-1 Hunter and Ocelot C-1 Siege Howitzer were equipped with larger weapons still, while the vehicles low profile allowed it to remain relatively stealthy. Much of its internal room is taken by the oversized 250 KW engine which provides the vehicle with fantastic speed. Most Ocelot's were expended in the lengthy skirmishes before Operation Shadowfall, and as a result relatively few of them were seen in the closing stages of the war.
