Defusing land mines so children can play is a good thing, yes. Putting them in the ground, on the other hand, is something I can't stand. I really sometimes wish we could all live in a world without weapons and war, but I guess such a wish is rather naive. I also don't really believe in "necessary evil" and I absolutely don't think the best way to stop terrorism and that kind of things is by starting a war. A war is a way of terrorism, after all. At least it is in my eyes.

Oh man... war. Yeah, I don't know if I believe too much in this particualr " necessary evil"... My friend's husband was in Iraq during 2003. He was defusing land mines, and a time fuse went off in his hand the day after this last Christmas. He is still recovering.... But here's the thing I appreciate: You don't find land mines where children play where I live. These Iraqi land mines were not just laid for U.S. soldiers to find... And what would we do? Just leave them there for children to step on? Hmmm... I don't have an easy answer for that. I'm never for starting the war. But now that it's someone I know... I find myself being more supportive. Not supportive of war... but the guys defusing land mines for kids to play safely in their fields again, you know?
