Description "The grass is always greener at the other side of the fence" is a quote that also applies to fashion. Ladies keep changing their haircuts (curls / no curls), wardrobe, glasses frames, experimenting with all aspects of their appearance. One line that cannot be crossed easily is the prescription for glasses and this is where my photo shoots come handy. Charlotte is a young lady who has worn glasses since early childhood and she is used to the magnifying effect of her +5 lenses. She belongs to a small minority in Holland - my estimate is that 90% of the Dutch young ladies in glasses have a prescription for myopia. Near the end of her photo shoot it was time to select a pair of favorite glasses from my new collection. These new glasses are all fitted with -8.00 lenses and as a result, Charlotte had to rely on the portraits to make her choice. A bridge of 13 diopters is simply too much for an assessment in a magnifying hand mirror. For this portrait I asked Charlotte to produce a wide eyed look in order to reduce the gap between her everyday looks and the effect in the new glasses. The brown frame is a nice match with the model's hair. The frame has been a favorite among my models ever since I bought it. A word of thanks is due to Jan Hesselink for the fine editing job.

Location: Enschede, The Netherlands, May 25th, 2010.

This portrait was first published on my weblog "Ladies behind crystal veil".
