Description An E.laurillardi breaking down a thick branch to feed on the leaves.

 Eremotherium is an extinct genus of ground sloth of the family Megatheriidae, endemic to North America and South America during the Pleistocene epoch. It lived from 4.9 mya—11,000 years ago existing (as a genus) for approximately 4.889 million years.

Some of the species could reach a length up to 6 m (20 ft) and a weight of more than 3 tonnes.

To tell the truth, I was -and still am- in doubt about the number of these species' claws!some pics show two,some three and even in some skeletal pics there is fives fingers on their fore feet! but I think I should revise this one as soon as I find more accurate reference pics

Thanks for the useful link.I reworked the hands,based on the structure of the bones,it seems they had one big and one little claw.

Not at all,at least not closely.They belonged to a completely distinct line of mammals,the super order Xenarthra to be exact.the bears belong to the order Carnivora.
