very nice design, and the colore scheme works wonders too. scales are neat and they look nice and natural...

but what I'm most impressed by in this pic is the angle you managed to position the head at... it's not an easy angle as far as I'm concerned... been trying to get that angle for some time with little success. I defenetly have something to learn from this pic.

anyways very nice design... keep up the great work.

Well, thanks! Glad you like it.

Don't know how helpful it is, but you might want to take a look at the process : [link]
The main thing is to keep practicing and practicing. It gets ya places!

I must say... the progress pics... sort of confuse me...

you made the volumes then added the basic outline... then you lost me... filled the entire outline in a really dark colore, then began adding blurry colores... it's fascinating how you go from such a blurry aspect to the nice smouth and clear view on the last step... but, I'm having problems understanding how you go about using this technick.

I always just added a base colore under the outlines... usually a dark colore, then would begin playing with dodge and burn over the dark basecolore to give the figure some volume, applying secondary patches of colore hereand there, or lighting.

your technick is very interesting... but I wouldn't know where to start with it...

Well, the point is not the coloring method, but the importance of some basic under-structure in relation to perspective. As for the painting process itself, of course there's no right or wrong way to do it, and I know I change my methods all the time...

This is awesome, I love the tiny intricate details - like the small scales around his lips, the wrinkled corners of the eyes and the soft-looking hair at the top of his head. The colors you chose go together beautifully!
And again, the level of detail is magnificent.

nice detail work, I especially like the old battle scars on the neck plaiting, the nose and the broken horn that give her that sense of age and realism

well done, the green eyes just pop out at you when shown against the black background and the yellow scalles.
You have chosen an excellent color scheme for this picture.

Beautiful. I like detail of the scales. However, I think that now that you have the subject down, you should try facial expressions or backgrounds.
