Description

I had a very productive day when I did these sketches: ‘Got my Epson 1500w printer set-up and running, Christmas Tree is now standing to attention, and I got these horse head studies done in my sketchbook.

All in preparation for when I start drawing Pit Ponies for my art class. Since we’re hoping to do an exhibition in the town hall where we have said class sometime in march. Based around Coal Mining in the North East.

I’ve also done these practice sketches of mining Canaries, in case you’re interested:

I also have a journal entry about my visit to the official mining art gallery that opened in my town.

I watched The Art of Aaron Blaise ’s hour and a half video on drawing horse heads.  Aaron Blaise of course was this big animator from Disney: worked on The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, Mulan, some Roger Rabbit shorts, The Rescuers Down Under, The Hare & The Bear Christmas advert, Pocahontas and directed Brother Bear. He's an amazing artist, especially when it comes to animals. So yeah, this guy is the dog's bollacks.

The video was absolutely great! Makes me wish I could take the rest of the course. Even with this one lesson, I’ve already found a new way of looking at horses and their skull structure. I’m looking forward to studying the rest of the body. You know you’ve had a good day when you’ve ended it with your fingers turned grey from the graphite. ‘Takes me back to when I used to work with horses. I can vouch that there’re few things better than tickling or rubbing a horses chin. As well as flicking their bottom lip while they don’t react. It’s honestly cute. /)^_^(\

The day after I uploaded these on my official Facebook page ., I started off my morning buzzing before I'd even had my coffee! I woke up, looked on my Facebook and I see I've got a comment of Trish, my art teacher. I'm thinking "Champion! I hope she likes my studies". Turns out she wasn't the only comment: On the post, I tagged his official page so people could go to it. Turns out, HE SAW MY ART AND COMMENTED ON IT!!!H HE COMPLIMENTED MY SKETCHES!!! I didn't even think he'd even look at it! What a tremendous honour!

It's at times like this that I know it's in me to draw. There's nothing else I want to do with my life or that I'm better off doing. If you regularly look at my page, you'll know I've been feeling confident about getting over some anatomy issues recently. Along with some other just little things that have been happening recently that have just boosted my confidence. Whether it be little victories with concept art, gaining new ideas or the interactions and compliments from my much older and more experiences art classmates. But this really is the cherry on top of it. It’s really difficult to formulate into words just how wonderful this feels.  But, as always, I hope I can keep improving.

Gosh these are SO GOOD! Man and all the different expressions and angles Embleer Fecking Frith. I bet that was bloody hard... 0.0 These already look super realistic and really capturing the movement and emotion, gosh... I'm stunned at these! I always love it when you get in the mood to do a particular animal study. ^^

Thank you!! The video I saw was so helpful with them. Even better since he actually liked and commented on my studies.
