Description
This creature lived during the Late Cretaceous where one day Southeastern Asia would be.
The Stellarhinus regalis (“royal star nose”) was a ceratopsid with uncertain placement on the clade’s phylogeny, but probably a basal coronosaur. Reaching 1m tall on shoulder, this creature was a common sight on woodlands and open forests.
The most notable characteristic of these creatures was the fancy nasal horn seen in males, a four pointed structure used mostly for display and rarely for combat among males. Females had short blunt horns instead, used mainly for defense against predators.
During mating season the male would develop hues of yellow on its face and horn, used to sign how healthy it is for other males. The whole herd protected the juveniles during the first two years before expelling them.
