it did came out the same year as CT, and while it has inferior graphics in some parts, is a really good game mostly because of the character dynamics you can have
also, if you're interested in playing it, go for the GBA version
The SNES one you can't run andon the GBA verson you get 3x the amount of gold and XP from enemies
tough it is less good-looking than the SNES version, specially with the redesigns

I always did enjoy games that involved strong character dynamics,Β
which I why I plan on getting Tales of beseria soon.
Well for games like that I usually buy the version that is available
on Steam.com since that is a good place to buy PC versions of theΒ
classics.

Unfortunately I think you'll have to emulate it, Capcom....kinda left this franchise to die, I don't think you can play it legally without buying a SNES or GBA copy of the game (I am lucky to have one copy here, but I still play on an emulator because my SNES doesn't work properly anymore)
but if you do manage to play it someday, you'll see what makes me love the game when it comes to character dynamics
not only every characters has their own "arc" like in an anime, but after every mission on the story you can go back to where your characters stay and talk to them about things, building up friendship, and learning more things
is not necessary for the name, nor does it unlocks anythign new, you just get to know them better, wich I love because if unlike other games that hammer backstories and such into you, or make it easier to talk with characters, YOU need to cross the whole map back to that place, if you want to learn about them, you need to care about them
also the game made me cry like a little baby 3 in different times in the story
so yeah

Capcom tends to do that with a lot of their old hits.Β
Sounds a lot like the Character missions in the "Mass Effect Trilogy"

never played Mass Effect, but among the SNES games, especially the RPG ones, BoF was the game that made me care the most about the characters, simply because if I wanted to know more about them I needed to try and earn that information

The game that did that for me was Rogue Galaxy.Β
Also did you know that Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross met theΒ
japanese voice actors for RWBY at the Japanese opening of it?

Man, Breath of Fire II was the BEST. In fact, Breath of Fire 1-3 were some of the best games I play in my childhood.

I enjoy all 4 games of the original franchise (we do not speak of Dragon Quarter here), and II was definetely the best of them all, followed closely by a tie between 3 and 4
I'm sad Capcon has this franchise dead

SlayerOfTears In reply to LeonardoFRei [2017-02-02 19:50:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, but to be fair, it's better dead than continuing into modern times, if DQ is anything to go by.
BoF2 also had possibly the best opening to any SNES game ever, in both tone and music.

LeonardoFRei In reply to SlayerOfTears [2017-02-02 20:14:43 +0000 UTC]
The thing with the BoF series is that they always tried new things, they were always trying to upgrate their own work, but Capcom decided to kill it after 1 misstep from the team (Dragon Quarter) rather than lerning with their mistakes and trying to make something better
So basically Capcom nowadays
Also Breath of Fire II not only has one of the best openings, but it, being a 16 bits game, made something even current games failed
It made me cry like a baby bitch
3 TIMES

To my eyes, which are admittedly blind, it looks either like the chest plateΒ Jaune currently wears or he is shirtless.
