Description Illustration for the next chapter of Movie Monsters.

Here is my first serious attempt at doing a digital background. Elizabeth Kollaja, a newly bitten werewolf, allows herself to follow instincts that tell her to kill small fluffy things. The discoloration on her hands is a scar from fighting another werewolf with a silver-threaded rope, and the belt is so that she can carry a silver knife with her in case she needs to defend herself. Just because she is a werewolf now doesn’t mean she is ready to trust them.

Critiques are welcome. I used some references, but not so much for the shading.

I'm shocked. Honest to goodness, I didn't know you had it in you. Very nicely done. It's by no means as polished as some of the masterworks on this site, but the lineart and coloring are solid, and the emotion of the piece is spot-on. I take my cool Atari hat off to you.

Or I would if I could find it. Where is it now...

Thank you. I didn’t know I had it in me either. Have to get over my dread of doing detailed backgrounds somehow.

Well, they take a long, long time, after all.

Oh man, she has an expression that immediately relates her to being Dog's cousin (or at least related) . I would critique that she's not exactly 'looking' at her prey (unless that's the effect you want)

Other than that, you've done a wonderful job with the shading, colouring, and especially texturing--trees and grass feel like trees and grass instead of randomly inserted BG, and the odd saproling adds variety.
Well done!

Ha, she and Dog do share a certain β€œDerp!” look.

You are right, I probably should have had her pupils pointing further down.

Glad you like the trees. I think I might be OK with trees. I dread moving on to the sterile, straight-lined shapes of human architecture.

Must run in a certain werewolf branch I guess
Eyes have given me more problems sometimes than the rest of the picture, but since I refuse to do the anime thing and have hair covering the other eye...

Human architecture can be fun if it's the older sort. Otherwise skyscrapers look much better as twinkling lights at night than in the morning.

Don’t get me started on the anime hair. I rate art for an image bank on a dog sim site, where they want things to be somewhat realistic, and I’m getting people drawing dogs with it. I’m sorry, but German Shepherds do not grow bangs.

TheTinkerThinker In reply to Leonca [2011-01-16 08:05:42 +0000 UTC]

So they've taken the magnificent, broad shouldered epitome of a police dog... and added bangs?
(I'm guessing you also see multi-coloured specimens?)

Actually the coloring usually isn’t too bad, aside from people assuming that breeders of show poodles dye them pink, or that it is possible for dogs to have purple eyes.

Ho Lol--for a long time I thought poodles were pink too thanks to all those cartoons. Dunno what's with the colour purple but a long of people seem to like it.
