Ohhh you had to put in the comments that it was a Megalodon... You deprived me the satisfaction of showing you that I could recognize it!

Yeah, I’m a sucker for learning scientific names.

I'm not, but I learned THAT one. What guy with even a fragment of scientific inclination could fail to on some level be fascinated by the most gargantuan shark that ever existed? I read a book once about an expedition to the Mariana Trench that discovered a population of surviving C.Megalodon specimens... and accidentally lured them up to the surface (and helped them make it.) And one of them was a pregnant female.

Yeah, I’ve been fascinated with them for a long time too and I don’t even like the ocean that much. They’re like the fish version of a T-rex.

Um no, they're more like the fish version of the not-real brontosaurus, only with T-Rex teeth and eating habits.

You mean because of the size? I don’t remember how big all of those things are, though I think the shark was estimated to be 50ft long.

Yes, that's about right--more than half the length of the blue whale (though because they'd be narrower too, they'd be less than half as massive.) Keep in mind, too, there were no blue whales when Carcharodon Megalodon roamed the seas. I wonder if there even was anything bigger in the water in its day? Certainly there has never been a bigger predator... Wait, Humpback whales, that's right. I wonder why they don't get as much attention?

I don’t know much about whales, but I thought there were some pretty big ones around for Megalodon to eat. Predators are often smaller than their prey.

Haha true, true! In fact, if you think about it, cats are the odd exception to the rule. Nature's bullies, they are, only eating things a fraction of their own size. I mean housecats naturally; the big cats take down bigger critters.

Yeah, it is interesting how they are designed to hunt differently. You can see it in the shape of their teeth, when compared to the big cats.

I've never really looked at a big cat's teeth. I just know from... I forget where... that lions can take down prey bigger than themselves. Wolves do it by hunting in packs. In point of fact, you're quite right; prey tends to be large and lumbering, predators small and nimble.

I think it's pretty impressive that cats can even catch mice. Granted, being bigger makes it easier to travel at higher top speeds, but it adds momentum; I can't catch a mouse in an open-terrain chase even if I out-speed it because it'll out-turn me six ways from Sunday. Only way I ever catch mice is when a cat has it worn-out already. Or just distracted, in some cases. I caught one that ran right under my foot trying to get away from a cat.

It’s been a while since any of ours have caught a mouse. Probably for the best, since Shadow tends to start fights making sure she keeps them to herself.

Hahaahahahahaha! xD Our cats, when we had a bunch that were all buddies, would gang up on them. Not bad enough they were 20 times the mice's size, they took them four-to-one too...

Ours aren’t nearly so good at sharing. Lots of growling and slapping.

Oh, the ones we have NOW are more like that. Or, one of them is with two of the others. Gracie is blind, and never leaves my mom's bed except to use the litterbox; none of the others mess with her. Precious torments my cat Mew, cornering her and starting screech fights that turn into brawls if nobody separates them, but otherwise stays mostly on the dresser in Mom's bathroom. Tuxedo roams the rest of the house, and only Mew bothers him, and that's where most of the growling and slapping happens--they never seriously fight, because usually one or the other will run off before the slapping ends. xD

Well, that sounds like more fighting than we usually get. Shadow is just possessive of food/toys and sometimes freaks out at everyone when the others get scared.

Hahaha yeah, Mew's a bit of a creep. xD And Precious... Well, I think Mew started it first, but Precious decided NOT to forgive or forget, even though Mew steers clear of her now. lol

It can be weird how they chose to work things out or not. Our fourth youngest harassed the youngest one for about a year after we got her as a kitten, until she grew up and learned to fight back.
