Leonid Afremov is traditional painter who uses palette knife with oil on canvas. He posses distinctive approach to his paintings which are rich in warm, saturated colors, often contrasted by bright or dark scenery. You can tell “it’s Afremov”. He praises life in human forms, acts, cities, sceneries, nature. His topics often repeat and if you look at his rich gallery you can find similar paintings indicating occasional author experiments on the same topics. Traditional techniques are hard and authors are rare, therefore his paintings should be carefully evaluated in the digital era. “Sea regatta” is one of the Afremov’s best paintings: colors nicely blend in a natural palette, shapes are straight and clean without much details, accent is on colored sails, leaving the sky and the water bit undone. Details like humans, water trails, dolphins and stars (or maybe a firework) in the skies are left behind: colors are in the center of this image and details and dynamics is not so important to the author. Nevertheless, “Sea regatta” is interesting impressionist-style painting that leave no one indifferent towards it.

I know the sail is the center, but I am drawn to the slice of sky. It is vivid and slightly chaotic. The waves below are touchingly real to me. They are water, and they are paint too. The water is reflective, and active. It would all be nothing, of course, without that bright rainbow sail, which you executed perfectly.
