That's my boy...er...turtle! Raphael is my all-time favorite. A lot of TMNT fans really dislike Raphael, seeing him as a trouble-maker and thorn in the side of the family, but his position in the four is pivotal. He is the muscle, the protector, and would sacrifice himself in an instant to keep his beloved brothers safe and whole. Being the strongest of the four and being an in-fighter (up close and in-your-face), he is more at risk than the others of being physically harmed in battle. It's his loyalty to family that is endearing and his complete fearlessness in battle that arrows into the heart of those fans who see him worthy and wonderful.

I agree! Raphael is more likely to be physically harmed than his other brothers form his severe case of protection instincts that are often dubbed “hot-headedness,” by its actually the opposite. True, he’s not as level-headed as the others, but he can still keep his temper in check to get out of tight situations.
Yes, I also agree many people view Raphael as a hot-headed jerk with very little consideration and morality, but insight tells me he cares a heck-a-ton about his family. You’re also right about him sacrificing himself for his brothers. I can just imagine (though I’d hate to because it would be super devastating for me) Raphael throwing himself in the way of harm to rescue his brothers. He actually does in Nickelodeon’s version, multiple times.
