Description One of the painted feathers I’ll be sending to Anthrocon, for inclusion in the art show.

This particular wing feather came from a crossbreed American turkey (it looks to have come from a bird that is a hybrid of Mottled Black and Narragansett turkeys), and has a particularly unusual pattern. I only have a few of these type of feathers, as they’re generally hard to get a hold of but worth the effort considering their beauty.

Btw, it’s backed with a fluffy feather from another rare heritage breed, the Sweetgrass turkey, and wrapped in natural tone suede lace with an amber gemstone. I’ve been quite experimental with this one, cutting the tip of the feather to make the paw print square stand out from the rest of it, which adds a nice design element. So, here we have a timber wolf accompanied by his raven friend, probably considering what to have for lunch. Let’s hope raven isn’t on the menu.

Is that wolf bipedal? If so, then I have to say: I'm quite fond of the idea of an anthropomorphic bipedal wolf having a non-anthropomorphic raven by his side. It reminds me very much of The Crow, and it's even a concept that I plan to use for a comic book series that I plan on making.

Either way, I think you did an excellent job on this drawing.

Keep up the good work.

I must admit that I didn't give it a lot of thought at the time, but I would say so now, yes! Definitely a strong concept to explore! And thank you for the kind comments!

Hey! ^^
I've got a question...where do you get the feathers and how did you make that pawprint-stone? O.o

Thank you!

I get the feathers from many places but a great place to look is Ebay. The Sweetgrass Turkey feathers came from a seller on there who has unfortunately stopped selling them, but as there are many breeders about, I'm sure someone will still be offering them. I hope this helps!

Ahh...! "Of wolves and ravens!" Very neat concept. As usual, the detail is amazing on such a tiny feather! I like the paw patch thing at the top. Is it part of the feather?

Nice wolf, and concept. And especially nice pawprint touch!
What is that made of? Looks like felt or fabric.

Leopreston In reply to dananew1 [2007-05-03 22:22:25 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, and that little square with the pawprint is actually the feather itself that I've cut to look like something added on, but it is the feather. Neat huh? You can do a lot with feathers if you experiment...

This is probably your best work yet Leo; you're really making this craft your own. I wish I was as inventive.

I have a question… do you “dab” with the paint brush, as opposed to stroking with the brushwork? It looks to me as that’s how you fashion these image.

Leopreston In reply to Lupinator [2007-05-13 17:58:54 +0000 UTC]

Finally... found this message again! (I've just replied to 109 messages... yeaaargh!!!)

Btw, dabbing, splatting, stroking... all of those. You'd be right though, this one's mainly dabbing... but the others, it depends on the picture... and my mood!

Blargh! I've taken a break from them for a while, but hopefully I'll get back into it soon. Actually, I really do feel like trying my hand at some animation right now! But what to animate?.... hmmm

Lupinator In reply to Leopreston [2007-05-13 20:50:17 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've always been a fan of all your works, so it's good news to me.

Animations are fun though... I wanted to work on some hand animations... but that didn't get past four frames... D:

Uh... You should animate a fight scene!! Finally make that cheetah dude of yours bring on the gore! You said you wanted to draw some of that a long time ago... I remember.

Leopreston In reply to Lupinator [2007-05-14 14:09:41 +0000 UTC]

Lol, aww, thanks bryan.

Oh... yeah! I had meant to draw him again, but something else took over as I remember. Lol, I could certainly try that... just need the paper now.

Lupinator In reply to Leopreston [2007-05-14 14:21:17 +0000 UTC]

That should be really cool. I kinda like the warrior types myself (you'll like the drawing I'm working on right now), but I really wish I had a bit of expertise at animation... my drawings tend to be too complicated and inconsistent to animate.

Good luck to you on that though! I hope things are more manageable for you now that all the AC stuff is said and done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Leopreston In reply to Lupinator [2007-05-14 14:30:54 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha, I know what you mean. I personally love the warrior types because of their uniforms! And yeah, whatever it is that you're working on right now, I'm sure I would like it!

Anyway, thankies! I hope I do get around to it, and yeah, glad AC is done and dusted.

Lupinator In reply to Leopreston [2007-05-14 14:35:47 +0000 UTC]

Haha... not only that... but I love the armor too! You can go so buck wild with that stuff... and it's fun to try and balance practical with artistic.

Anyways, I'm gonna leave you a note sometime later the day because I have a couple things to talk to you about... or otherwise we could arrange some sorta meeting on YIM if you want... that might be better because we can work out all the stuff in detail and more swiftly.

You let me know.

Leopreston In reply to Lupinator [2007-05-14 17:06:35 +0000 UTC]

Btw, sure, feel free to note me, unless you wanted to wait for me to be on YIM, but that might not be as fast.
