Description Three conceptual sketches of one of my lesser known and rarely drawn characters, Horatio Helmswell, commander of a part of the Nauticus Quartermark Fleet, Southwest Sector. I realise that I don’t offer too much information about what Armarniss actually is. I’m afraid I prefer instead to keep it behind the scenes, so for those who may be a little baffled at the sudden lack of medieval influence, let me just establish that Armarniss is a world that encompasses many different time periods that exist at the same time. As the story is centered on main characters with a medieval influence, the focus is on this period in the beginning. Horatio is really a classic example of what I aim to do with the entire Armarniss project: take history, then distort it. He is most obviously based on one great English hero, Admiral Lord Nelson, having lost an eye and an arm, but not in land battles. His duty is to patrol the surrounding waters of the main landmass in his given sector, making sure that no unruly activities are being undertaken under his commissioner’s nose, including acts of piracy. Although his general mannerism is to maintain the air of ‘an officer and a gentleman’, he can be rather arrogant at times and craves to see more action than he currently gets in his uneventful state. He finds himself desperate to prove himself after having endangered the lives of his crew because of his ego (costing him his eye and arm), having been placed in the calm Southwest sector to ‘cool his heels’. However, things are sure to take a different turn after he meets Lance and Yolos, traveling dangerously on a ship marked as a pirate vessel. The three sketches are a study of Horatio’s seafaring attire (partly based on the 18th century Navy), his later uniform as acting captain of the Armarniss Guard and a colour concept.

I doubt you can fight with one (left) hand mate. Or he may?

Excellent job, it's funny that, cause I have a character of my own who also is an Admiral in the 18th century Royal Navy. Great work, I would upload my own, but it makes me too nervous.

Thank you very much, and you shouldn't fear uploading your own character!

I like it, the whole Admiral Nelson take-of. You need more of this, say a Captain Jack Aubritton (Jack Aubrey) and Doctor Stephen Mauritius (Stephen Maturin) lol!

LOL! Thanks... As for Captain Aubrey and Stephen Maturin, I think we can rely on Steampunk_Girl for that!

He's very handsome!!! but I think it's the uniform that demands attention ... and his expressions too... the cool, I don't take **** from no one attitude, just adds to his charm.

Wow... This is a character you never even mentioned.

Has he been created since 2003?

Yes, he was created early 2005. I figured that if Talbot was going to make an entrance in the sea scenes, then he should have someone to have a fight with! Technically, Talbot is from a different project, one that I threw to one side ages ago, but I like the idea of him making a guest appearance in Armarniss.

It's nice to see new mergings of ideas and see if they'll coalesce in a smooth manner. Historical ideas are always difficult because of the difference in cultures and lifestyles that are involved in them. I look forward to seeing this come to fruition. I also hope you're going to color Horatio in a full picture if you haven't already because he is quite awesome looking.

Thank you. I'm hoping to at some stage. It would be unfair to leave Horatio without colour! ^_^
