Yeah, I'd just started to layer cardboard textures on my pictures so
I overdid it a bit. Nowadays I tend to keep it on lower opacities,
generally under 40%

No I mostly draw my pictures by hand. I do use my computer for other works but mostly drawingsΒ

Photoshop is a powerful tool if you can get it. If not, GIMP pretty
much does the same thing for free.

Ok I'm planning to be an author as I have written novels and short stories.
I got one book waiting to hear back from 3 publishers and going to work on another novel project along with other stuff to work on. I enjoy writingΒ

Yowza, 3 publishers? Nice! I've only completed one novel
myself, and it was really only a first draft
Writing is a lot of fun, too true.

Yeah 3.Β
First was Bean but there waiting period is over 9 to 12 months which is almost a year.
Other two are Tor UK & BBB "Blood Bound Books" I should get an email from Tor UK by the end of June and BBB at the end of July or Aug.Β
Keeping my fingers crossed and hope I get my writing off the ground.Β

sweet Have you had any of your short stories
published?

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-03 18:46:46 +0000 UTC]

Only one. It was for an online magazine and I never got paid for the story.
It was an cyberpunk, horror story called [Hacked] and the most annoying thing was I was told the story could only have 1.500 words which in total is 10 pages. I never wanted to write another story that magazine as making a story that short was hard.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to James-Dark-Blue-Wolf [2014-06-04 07:17:15 +0000 UTC]

Sounds like "flash fiction" or fragment since most short
stories are a few thousand words Sorry you didn't
get paid. My brother submits stories to websites too and
it's slow going trying to get a paying gig for him too.

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-04 07:21:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I asked the guy to pay me as I wasn't going to posting these for free and never said anything back.

I don't want to post any of my work online I want to publish it so I know it's going to sell and I'll be making moneyΒ

Hmm. Well, I'd like to make money too, naturally, but
I posted my novel to DA as I was writing it because I
knew the feedback from the people here would help
me to improve my writing.

That'll be good I haven't submitted anything to
a publisher yet because I don't think I've got my
writing quite up to snuff for it yet. Nice.

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-04 07:47:17 +0000 UTC]

I had to look through a lot and what's shocking is most publishers don't want any new works coming to them and these were big name publishers which shocked me. I was lucky to find those who would take the time to look over my work.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to James-Dark-Blue-Wolf [2014-06-04 07:56:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, some publishers won't take anything unless it's
from an agent or unless you pay them to read it
This is why a lot of authors just e-publish or go to print
on demand sites

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-04 07:57:46 +0000 UTC]

I know and if I had money I would do that.
I don't like those e-reader things. There not kool as reading a bookΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to James-Dark-Blue-Wolf [2014-06-04 08:02:45 +0000 UTC]

I agree about that The appeal, though, is that the author
can make a larger profit. I just wish I had more finished work
to put out there.
When you write your books do you create an outline first?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-04 15:33:36 +0000 UTC]

When I write a book I state what year, date and place is as I like to tell the reader where everything is happening. I'm very detail with a lot of things in the bookΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

leothefox In reply to James-Dark-Blue-Wolf [2014-06-04 20:53:37 +0000 UTC]

I see, very setting intensive. Do you worry over things like
narrative voice and stuff like that? I'm troubled about that
in my own work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-04 21:00:18 +0000 UTC]

Some stories of mine have narrative at the start of the story but it's most shown through the main characters of the story.Β

James-Dark-Blue-Wolf In reply to leothefox [2014-06-04 21:14:06 +0000 UTC]

Some writers do multiple points of view, I never much cared
for that unless it was done in the form of letters or journals
like in Bram Stokers "Dracula"
