Character design work up for a yet to be introduced character. I think she makes a brief appearance in the next volume of Zap! but the text is referenceing a story arc quite far down the line that I'm pretty excited about drawing. Odds are seven people will post a comment about boobs. Anyway, these little images are things I do to get the character design all established in my head. I liked the way this one turned out so I'm posting it.Things are about to get pretty different in Zap! and I'm wondering how you guys will take it...

Your technic is awesome the colours give off the feal of innocence . The long hair makes her look younger. I find it to be very very good keep it up!

Other than that, my only 3 complaints are that the hair that goes along her cheeks look glued to her face, and the hair, although long and pretty and awesome, is very uneven in length. Going by how far it goes before it stops on the sides of the page, it really shouldn't be able to reach off the bottom of the screen.
Lastly, there is more hair there than there is room for it to grow on her head. At the place where it gets really wide and thick below her hips, it shouldn't be that opaque, there isn't enough room on her head to grow that much hair. A possible theory I have, though, is that she grows a lot of hair down the center of her back. A lot of the hair seems to flow from there, doesn't it?

have you ever heard of a cartoon character? They're not real. They can be however you imagine them. I think it's kinda sad that you can't let go of some pre-set idea of "reality" in order to imagine something new and magical.
Also, ZOMG the hair on her face is a total clue to something!

love the colour of the pic i get real emotion from it. what did you use as inspiration? i think the use of colour is similar to the end pictures on Outlaw Star where the chosen colour is a factor in the feel of the picture.

I don't know that anything really inspired me directly, other than wanting to work out the character. The image started out as pink, because I was just trying to figure out the colors I wanted to use for her. I have an idea that I sort of maybe want her to change colors through gradients during her scenes, i haven't really decided yet...

current characters either completely dissapear

The intent was not to put the story down at all. I love the story thatβs being told. The intent was more to compliment how your work has changed and grown. I feel the chars have become more then their story but they could not have done such without it.

The name leads me to believe that this story contains A: The origins of the Excelsior/ how she was made or B: The story of how that girl, whom I'm guessing is psychic, got her consciousness transferred into the excelsior, thus explaining it's insanely advanced abilities on finding psychics.
Of course, if this takes place after the current Zap! storyline, instead of before, my theories are pretty much out the window.
That said, nicely done pic. She looks rather sad......

Actually I was gonna comment more on the texting. It sounds a heck of a lot like the world today. Humans fear what they don't understand, and that fear leads to hate, and that hate leads to destruction.

Sorry, had to start filling the quota. I like the attention to detail on the shadows of the hand, and am looking forward to more of Zap!. There is something beautifully hypnotic about the contrast between Reona's gun-arm and her lovely dress and hair.
