Description My odd thought process here: WHAT IF Kirby had not done Marvel's Thor in those early years but rather it was done by Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta. I would imagine it would've been a very different type of book with a different look, feel and type of story. This is the sort of approach I imagine they'd take.
I just finished the book Al Williamson Hidden Lands. If you aren't familiar with Williamson's comic book work from the 50's, check it out... you'll be blown away by the quality.

Thanks for those very kind words, my friend. I look back at this one and while I'm happy with what's there, it just feels like I could have added more. Who knows? ...maybe I'll come back to it later. Still, I'm happy to hear you liked it, especially the pose! Thanks!

Awesome pose and expression work on the character. You always pique my curiosity with your suggested readings, so I'm checking that book out! I'm always thrilled to see where you'll take us next. Great work, bud!

Thanks bud! I actually met Williamson back in the mid-80's at a comic convention. I told him how honored I was to meet such a great illustrator and he just chuckled and said "Let me guess, you want to talk about my comics from the 50's?" I told him I was unfamiliar that and was only familiar with his more recent work (at that time), comic adaptations of Star Wars movies and Blade Runner but after talking a brief while, it turned out I was familiar with the sci-fi comics he'd done for EC in the 50's. My eyes were bulging out of my head, "That was you??!!" I asked. Most of the EC stuff was brilliant, particularly advanced for it's time. Sadly, not being familiar with the rest of his work from that period, we ran out of things to talk about but he was such a cool guy, sweet and humble that I wanted to talk more! The book is an interesting bit of history about Al and his very talented collaborator friends. Their illustrations are well beyond comic standards, much is photo-referenced so there's wonderful folds in the clothes, dramatic shadows, terrific layouts and beautiful details. Lots of cowboys, dinosaurs, lush jungles, and rocketships too! Unfortunately, the comic stories in the book are mostly pure dreck but it's all about Al's amazing art anyway.

Another top 3D image my friend! Thor looks really tough and ready to really whollop that sea serpant. I really like the ship & serpant they are spectacular!

Thanks, bud! I had a lot of fun with this one! Daz3D gets credit for the ship (Drakkar) and the serpent (Sub Dragon) although both were somewhat modified to fit my nefarious plans.

Thanks Delia! Much appreciation for the kind words. Actually, I was pretty happy with Thor's pose on this one... it came from studying how Frazetta handled action poses.
